Meteor Lake is the codename for Intel's latest CPU lineup, which will be released sometime in the second half of 2023. It's Intel's 14th generation of processors, built on a 7nm process. More importantly, it's Intel's first CPU to use a "chiplet" design, which allows components to be combined like LEGO bricks depending on the capabilities required. It's also Intel's first chip to use extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography in its manufacturing process.

Additionally, Meteor Lake is Intel's first client CPU to use the Intel 4 architecture and the company has confirmed that it will be available for purchase by the end of 2023, despite concerns about delays.
Meteor Lake's specifications are still largely speculative, although figures for its mobile variants have recently been released. If the CPU does indeed launch before the end of 2023, the first devices to feature the chip could be heavy-duty gaming laptops. YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead recently revealed some expected performance information for the chips, where they'll likely be on par with AMD's Phoenix chips.
Notably, Intel will switch to a new naming system when launching this 14th generation CPU line, including Intel, Intel Core and Intel Ultra.
Multiple AI features
Meteor Lake is built to support a range of AI-centric programs, such as Adobe Photoshop's AI fill function. Intel claims that the new CPU line will handle graphics-intensive functions like photo and video editing and high-resolution gaming more efficiently than current products, while using less power, allowing for more efficient performance and longer battery life.
CPU development roadmap released by Intel
This CPU has built-in graphics support, working with DirectX 12 Ultimate, Ray Tracing, and Intel's Xe Super Sampling (XeSS). It's also built to handle Direct Machine Learning (DirectML).
Hardware Advances
Intel will manufacture these new chips so that they can be combined together. Each component will have a tile-like structure that allows different parts to be combined in different ways depending on the type of device being used.
Meteor Lake will use a system-on-chip (SoC) design, with each chip having its own integrated Intel Arc graphics and a dedicated AI processor called a VPU.
The CPU part of the SoC will likely be manufactured by Intel, while the graphics and other components will be manufactured by a Taiwanese partner. While that makes manufacturing more complicated, it increases production efficiency and speeds up the process.
Details of the mobile versions of Meteor Lake (U, P, and H) have been leaked on Igor's lab blog, revealing that it will include 14 cores. As for the desktop (S series), everything is just speculation with a maximum clock speed of up to 5.5 GHz.
The first consumer product using Meteor Lake CPUs could be a laptop
Release date
The question of when Meteor Lake will launch has been a real concern, with rumors of delays and cancellations swirling around the issue. So far, Intel has said the chip is on track for release in the second half of 2023. The first consumer devices to use the CPU are likely to be laptops.
As for pricing, no official numbers have been given. Intel won’t be selling the Meteor Lake chips themselves, so you’ll have to pay for the CPUs in devices like laptops or desktops. For reference, Raptor Lake (13th-gen Core) sells for between $300 and $700.
