That was the information given by Mr. Vuong Van Dao, Minister of Commerce of China, when discussing with his counterpart - Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, at the 12th meeting of the Vietnam - China Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee, which took place on November 27, in Hanoi.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that China give Vietnam's spiny lobsters time to adapt to new regulations.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien proposed that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce support Vietnamese enterprises in building agricultural and fruit brands in the Chinese market; promote the signing of a framework agreement on rice trade between Vietnam and China; expand the list of border gates between China and Vietnam that are allowed to import agricultural, aquatic and food products, etc.
Regarding the stagnant export of lobster products from Vietnam to China since August, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien requested that Chinese authorities give lobsters a transition period when imported into China so that businesses can adapt to the new regulations from this market.
Mr. Vuong Van Dao affirmed that China is a large market and welcomes high-quality agricultural products from Vietnam. Currently, many Vietnamese agricultural products exported to China are being consumed very strongly and are very popular with consumers. Especially durian, after only 10 months since durian was opened to the Chinese market (late 2022), Vietnam's durian exports have reached more than 2 billion USD. It is forecasted that next year, durian exports to the Chinese market will far exceed this year.
Mr. Vuong Van Dao said that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce always proposes and urges the General Administration of Customs of China to open the market for Vietnamese agricultural products; is ready to coordinate with the Vietnamese side to resolve and respond to agricultural product exports.
Regarding the current difficulties in exporting lobsters from Vietnam, the Chinese Minister of Commerce said that Vietnamese enterprises need to urgently register their production and packaging facilities with the General Administration of Customs of China.
Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao shared at the 12th meeting of the Vietnam - China Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee
In addition, the competent authorities of the two countries need to promptly carry out inspection and assessment of enterprises and growing areas directly or online so that lobster products can be exported to China.
"China attaches great importance to and is ready to coordinate and implement measures to facilitate customs clearance to ensure the interests of Vietnamese farmers," said Mr. Vuong Van Dao.
Previously, on November 25, at the conference with the theme: "Current situation of supply of seeds, food, and materials for marine aquaculture; traceability of products and solutions for sustainable development of marine aquaculture in Vietnam" organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Khanh Hoa, Mr. Le Ba Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), stated the reasons why exporting spiny lobster from Vietnam to China is facing difficulties.
Specifically, since February 2021, China has listed the spiny lobster as a group 2 endangered species. Most recently, in May, China continued to amend the law on wildlife protection, including banning the capture of animals on the endangered list issued in 2021.
Of which, natural spiny lobsters are prohibited from being caught, used, and traded. Based on these regulations, the General Administration of Customs of China has directed the customs system at border gates to strictly control the import of naturally caught spiny lobsters.
