ASEAN Ministers in charge of information meet in Da Nang City

The 16th ASEAN Ministers on Information Meeting, themed "Communication: From information to knowledge for a resilient and adaptive ASEAN", took place from September 20 to 23 in Da Nang City.

On September 18, in Da Nang City, the Ministry of Information and Communications held a press conference to inform about the 16th ASEAN Ministers on Information (AMRI); the 7th ASEAN+3 Ministers on Information Meeting and related senior officials meetings.

The Ministry of Information and Communications said that Vietnam chose the theme "Media: From information to knowledge for a resilient and adaptive ASEAN" as the theme throughout the entire agenda.

The theme highlights the role and mission of the media sector in the new period, making information the driving force of development, not only providing information but also promoting the transformation from information to knowledge, to build a self-reliant ASEAN, strengthen internal capacity, resilience and adaptability to affirm the role and position of ASEAN not only inward-looking, but also ready to respond to fluctuations in the current world situation.

Within the framework of the event week, there are main activities, including: The 16th ASEAN Ministers of Information Meeting - an opportunity for ASEAN ministers in charge of information to discuss and give directions and instructions to promote cooperation between ASEAN countries in the fields of: press; radio and television; internet (social networks, websites, internet-based communication) and raise awareness about ASEAN.

The 7th AMRI+3 Conference - a forum for information ministers of ASEAN countries and 3 dialogue countries (China, Korea, Japan) to discuss initiatives, priorities, orientations as well as promote cooperation with partner countries in the information field; the 20th SOMRI Conference and SOMRI+3, SOMRI+Japan...

Within the framework of the program, there are also forums, seminars and sideline activities, such as: Bilateral meetings between countries; ASEAN photo exhibition; ASEAN online film/photo experience area...

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam , life is currently flooded with real and fake information, including information provided by humans or created by machines and algorithms... The conference aims to turn information into knowledge, improve the ability to respond to fake news... This is the highest coordination mechanism among ASEAN countries in terms of information. The results of the conference will be recommended to the highest level of the countries.
