Responding to reporters' questions about the request for more information about the Vietnamese citizens who were rescued in Myanmar and the plan to bring them back home, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that according to the latest information from the Vietnamese representative agency in Myanmar, the security situation in some northern states of Myanmar continues to have complicated developments. To date, about 700 Vietnamese citizens are in temporarily safe areas and many other cases are awaiting information verification.
"As soon as we received information about the situation in Myanmar, as well as the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar at the end of October 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to work with the authorities and request the Myanmar side to ensure the safety and basic living conditions for Vietnamese citizens and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to move out of the conflict area," said Ms. Pham Thu Hang.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnamese representative agencies in Myanmar and China have closely coordinated and shared information with foreign representative agencies with citizens in this area and worked with Chinese authorities to request support for Vietnam in citizen protection.
Ms. Hang said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to coordinate with domestic and foreign authorities to deploy measures to ensure safety and evacuate citizens as soon as possible.
"We have been working 24/7 and in the coming time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will closely monitor the situation and keep in touch with the contacts of Vietnamese citizens in the refugee area and be ready to deploy necessary civil protection work, bringing citizens back to the country after agreeing on a relocation plan," Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
