Basically solve the water stagnation situation on National Highway 50 in 2024
Previously, the Ministry of Transport received a petition from voters in Tien Giang province, reflecting that there were many sections of National Highway 50 that did not have a drainage system, so rainwater accumulated on the road surface, which could easily lead to deterioration and traffic safety problems. Therefore, voters proposed upgrading the degraded sections and building a drainage system on both sides of this national highway.
Voters reported that National Highway 50 is flooded, causing the road surface to deteriorate, posing a potential traffic safety risk.
The Ministry of Transport said that some sections of National Highway 50 through Tien Giang province still have water on the roadside, due to people living on both sides of the road building houses, leveling and constructing structures, without a drainage system.
To solve the above situation, in recent years, with road maintenance funds, the Vietnam Road Administration has implemented drainage system repair projects from Km50+934 to Km83+900; in 2023; Organized the construction of the drainage system repair project from Km61+000 - Km62+900.
In 2024, the project to repair the drainage system along sections Km42+800 - Km43+050, Km59+000 - Km59+320 will continue.
"Thus, when the above projects are completed in 2024, the water stagnation situation on the route will be basically resolved," the Ministry of Transport added.
Regarding the proposal to install traffic lights at the intersections: National Highway 50 with Lo Dinh Street (District Road 91); National Highway 50 with Tran Hung Dao Street; Trung Luong intersection (National Highway 1) to ensure traffic safety, the Ministry of Transport said, On December 18, 2023, the Vietnam Road Administration coordinated with the Traffic Safety Committee of Tien Giang province and the Tien Giang Department of Transport to survey locations where voters requested to install traffic lights.
Accordingly, at the intersection of National Highway 50 and Lo Dinh Road (District Road 91), to strengthen traffic safety measures, the locality agreed to renovate the intersection and install a traffic light system from local funding.
At the intersection of National Highway 50 with Tran Hung Dao Street and Trung Luong intersection (National Highway 1), currently, the traffic volume through the intersection is not much, so it is not necessary to invest in installing traffic lights in this area. The Vietnam Road Administration and the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee will continue to monitor the traffic order and safety situation in this area to have appropriate solutions.
At the same time, in 2024, the Traffic Safety Committee of Tien Giang province has planned to install gantry cranes to promote traffic safety combined with lane guidance for vehicles to reduce traffic congestion at the intersection area.
The Vietnam Road Administration will coordinate with the Traffic Safety Committee and functional forces of Tien Giang province to continue monitoring and adding additional signs to inform traffic participants to raise awareness of traffic participants in the intersection area.
The drainage system is damaged due to people littering and encroaching on road safety corridors, causing National Highway 1 through Tien Giang to be frequently flooded.
Handling damaged drainage system on National Highway 1 through Tien Giang
In the document, the Ministry of Transport also responded to the request for repairing the drainage system on National Highway 1 through Cai Lay and Chau Thanh districts, Tien Giang province. According to the Ministry of Transport, the current status of the section from Binh Phu Bridge to Phu Nhuan Bridge, Cai Lay district is managed and maintained by National Highway 1 Tien Giang Investment Company Limited.
The main cause of flooding on the road is that the route passes through densely populated areas, schools, Binh Phu market, people litter and waste into drainage ditches; there is encroachment on road safety corridors, construction of temporary houses, yards, house entrances and exits, burying water intakes and drainage ditch covers, which has greatly affected road drainage in this area.
Recently, the unit responsible for maintaining the project, Tien Giang QL1 Investment Company Limited (BOT project enterprise), has dredged the longitudinal ditch, but there is still stagnant water on the roadside as reflected by voters.
On December 7, 2023, the Traffic Safety Committee of Tien Giang province, the Department of Transport of Tien Giang province, the People's Committee of Cai Lay district, the Office of Highway Management IV and Tien Giang National Highway 1 Investment Company Limited organized a site inspection, agreed on technical solutions and requested the BOT project enterprise to invest in the construction of additional drainage ditches to handle damage caused by encroachment causing flooding on the road surface.
After completing the design and approval procedures from the competent authority, the project enterprise will organize implementation to complete in 2024.
