VnExpressVnExpress15/02/2024

The Politburo requires agencies to perfect policies on training, fostering, healthcare, housing, salaries, allowances, and incentives for athletes, coaches, and sports talents.

According to the newly issued conclusion on the development of physical education and sports in the new period, the Politburo outlined a series of policies that need to be focused on in the coming time, such as infrastructure; professional sports, high-performance sports, mass sports, physical education and school sports. The legal framework on sports economics, ownership, transfer, copyright exploitation, sponsorship and socialization also needs to be completed.

The overall project on physical development and stature of Vietnamese people in the period 2011-2030 needs to be well implemented, along with the development of training indexes and assessment of physical fitness of Vietnamese people. Agencies should soon issue a strategy for physical education and sports development until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Professional and high-performance sports are focused on development, associated with the completion of the athlete training system, national and international competitions, especially key Olympic sports. Organizations and individuals are encouraged to establish professional sports clubs, train athletes and coaches, organize competitions, and legally transfer.

The Politburo requested to focus on planning, training, and fostering a team of leaders and managers, and those directly involved in physical education and sports. Research, application of science and technology, international cooperation and exchange should be promoted, contributing to improving understanding and sharing experiences between countries.

Public sports and physical training units should promote autonomy and improve service quality in line with international standards. "Resolutely handle violations of the law, corruption, and negative acts in the field of sports and physical training," the Politburo stated.

In addition, mass sports are encouraged to develop, creating opportunities for everyone to practice, perform, compete to improve health, prevent and treat diseases, and have fun and entertain. Ethnic sports will be given priority for development.

School sports continue to innovate with the goal of comprehensively developing ethics, knowledge, culture, health, aesthetics, and life skills for students, creating a foundation for nurturing young talents and abilities.

Pupils and students are encouraged to participate in physical education, sports and physical training. Facilities, teachers and lecturers for all levels are invested in, along with scientific research on age-related psychology. Physical training and health improvement for officers and soldiers in the armed forces are enhanced.

A number of key facilities for athlete training, scientific research and sports medicine will be given priority for investment. The sports market will be developed in association with promoting public-private cooperation. Enterprises and individuals are encouraged to participate in building sports facilities, competitions, training athletes, coaches and referees.

The Politburo assessed that over the past 10 years, Vietnamese sports have developed strongly, achieving many positive results. High-performance sports have made remarkable progress, increasing their rankings in the region, continent and internationally.

However, investment resources for sports are still low. Professional and high-performance sports are not yet developed firmly. Policies for coaches and athletes are still limited. School physical education has not met requirements.

One of the reasons is that the economic and sports policies, socialization, attracting high-quality human resources, and applying science and technology are not strong enough. The role of social organizations and professional societies has not been promoted.

Currently, the salary for athletes and coaches is still low. According to the Government's regulations from 2018, the head coach of the national team is paid 505,000 VND/day for training and competition. The salary of a national youth coach is 375,000 VND/day. The salary of a national youth team coach is 270,000 VND/day. The salary of a national team athlete is 270,000 VND/day; the salary of a national youth team athlete is 215,000 VND/day. In addition, they are rewarded for their achievements in national, regional and international competitions.
