At the 2024 admission conference, the Ministry of Education and Training announced statistics for the 2023 admissions with many notable new points. Accordingly, in 2023, the whole country had more than 1 million candidates taking the high school graduation exam, of which 546,686 candidates were admitted to universities and colleges of education nationwide (reaching 53.12% of the total number of candidates taking the exam).
Admission results vary from school to school. Of the 322 training institutions, only 203 have an admission rate of 80% or higher.
These figures show that the university admission rate in 2023 increased compared to 2022 - the admission rate/number of candidates taking the exam was 51.35%. The rate of candidates who passed the exam and completed admission procedures at schools was over 83%. Thus, in the past 4 years, 2023 is the year with the lowest admission rate/quota.
Regarding the rate of high school graduates admitted to and enrolled in universities and colleges of education in 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training assessed that Binh Duong leads the country, with more than 80% of students after graduating from high school entering universities and colleges of preschool education.
In the top 10 leading localities nationwide are Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Thua Thien - Hue, Nam Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Phu Yen.
The top 10 localities with the lowest rate of students entering university and college in the field of Pedagogy in the country include: Son La, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Lang Son, Dien Bien, Quang Binh, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh, Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang. Son La is at the bottom of the country with only 26%.
Regarding enrollment results by field, the Business and Management sector continues to lead with 23.57% (a slight decrease compared to 2022 with 24.54%). Next is the Computer and Information Technology sector accounting for over 11%, Engineering Technology over 10%, Humanities over 8% and the Health sector over 6.7%.
On the contrary, the 5 industries with the lowest rates include: Social Services, Veterinary Medicine, Mathematics and Statistics, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences. These are also the lowest industries in 2022, with no improvement.
Also at the admission conference, the Ministry of Education and Training proposed two plans to hold the 2024 high school graduation exam on June 21-22 or June 26-27.
According to the exam regulations, candidates participating in the 2024 high school graduation exam will take 4 exams including: Literature, Math, Foreign Language, Natural Science (including the components of Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Science (including the components of History, Geography, Civic Education).
The Ministry of Education and Training also informed that the university admission schedule for 2024 is expected to start from July 10. Candidates can register, adjust, and add admission wishes until July 25, with no limit on the number of times and wishes. From July 28 to August 3, candidates pay admission fees online.
On July 20, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) for health and education majors, then process candidates' admission requests from August 5 to 10.
Before 5:00 p.m. on August 12, schools must announce the admission scores and notify the first round of successful candidates. By 5:00 p.m. on August 18, candidates must complete online admission confirmation.
