Binh Dinh is about to host the first international motorboat race in Vietnam, promising to be a driving force for the province to develop international-class sports and cultural tourism.
The 2024 Binh Dinh Grand Prix, including the Aquabike World Championship (ABP Aquabike) and the Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship (UIM F1H2O), will take place from March 22 to March 31 at Thi Nai Lagoon, Quy Nhon City. This is the first time the tournament has been organized by the International Powerboat Federation (UIM) in Vietnam, bringing together about 70 professional athletes from around the world.
Binh Dinh will have the F1H2O Binh Dinh - Vietnam racing team with two members: reigning world champion Jonas Andersson and teammate Stefan Arand - a rookie from Estonia.

At a press conference about the event in Hanoi on January 19, Mr. Tran Viet Anh - Chairman of Binh Dinh Tourism Association - said that Vietnamese people have a love for sports, especially speed sports. Although it is the first time to organize, the international professional powerboat racing tournament promises to attract great attention from Vietnamese tourists. The success of the upcoming tournament will create a premise for professionalizing this sport in Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam does not have a professional tournament, but the grassroots clubs are operating actively.
Responding to VnExpress , Mr. Tran Van Thanh, Director of the Department of Tourism of Binh Dinh province, emphasized that becoming the first host of a boat race in Vietnam will bring great advantages to the image of local tourism in the direction of becoming a venue for organizing national and international sports and cultural events.
During the week of the tournament, Binh Dinh organized a series of side events such as "The First Binh Dinh International Food Festival", "International Music and Beach Fashion Festival", "Investment promotion conference with gala night to meet billionaires".
The events are expected to attract about 50,000 domestic and foreign visitors to Binh Dinh, not counting the number of tourists.
Binh Dinh has been highly appreciated by many international media channels and has gradually affirmed its position on the international tourism map, with votes such as "Southeast Asia's leading destination", "luxurious, attractive, uncrowded beach tourist destination" or "Maldives of Vietnam". Quy Nhon City will be one of three Vietnamese cities awarded the "ASEAN Clean Tourist City 2024" award at the Southeast Asia Tourism Forum - ATF 2024.
After this tournament, Binh Dinh will organize a series of annual activities, promising to attract tourists who are passionate about sports and culture such as cycling races, VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2024, national youth athletics championship, kite festival, and ocean tuna festival.
