Growing up on the west coast of Taiwan, Eddie Wang saw discarded oyster shells everywhere. Instead of treating them as trash, some of his neighbors burned the shells and stuck them to their walls.
The house with a natural "heat-insulating wall" layer has become warm in winter and cool in summer.
The idea inspired Wang when he worked with a research institute to experiment with making fabric from oyster shell waste.
Today, Wang turns nearly 100 tons of seashells a year into a new insulating fabric called "seawool."
This man's initiative and efforts are the clearest proof of the saying: "Turning trash into gold".
