From a boy watching airplanes on a buffalo's back to an aircraft engineer
Born and raised in the rice fields of Thai Binh, although his family only had two siblings, his parents worked in the fields so Nguyen Thanh Cuong's childhood was not as fortunate and complete as many of his peers.
Witnessing the hardships and difficulties of his parents, Cuong tried to study hard since he was still in school and hoped to grow up to become a soldier to be honored and proud to be called "Uncle Ho's Soldier" and to reduce the burden on his parents. When he was a child, herding buffaloes in the fields, Cuong used to look up and watch the planes flying by. The boy dreamed that one day he would be able to sit on one of those planes.
