Kien Giang While repairing electricity at a resort in Phu Quoc, a worker was bitten by a large, hairy black spider, causing his hand to swell and his whole body to ache.
The worker went to SOS Phu Quoc Clinic for examination and caught a spider with a body length of 4 cm and a leg span of 13 cm that bit him so that the doctor could identify the type of toxin and provide appropriate treatment.
On October 27, Dr. Doan Thanh Hien, Head of Internal Medicine Department of SOS Phu Quoc Clinic, said that the patient was poisoned by a spider bite, however, this clinic does not have anti-spider venom serum so only symptomatic treatment is based on the Ministry of Health's protocol.
Accordingly, the doctors cleaned the patient's wound, injected anesthetic to prevent the poison from moving, administered intravenous fluids, and treated him with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy, anti-edema, and pain-relieving drugs. After two hours of monitoring, the symptoms subsided and the patient was allowed to go home.

According to Dr. Hien, the spider that bit the patient was the largest he had ever seen. The spider had hair all over its body, a long head, and two sharp teeth, and it was unclear what type it was. The patient said the spider was hiding in a dark corner and suddenly bit his hand while he was repairing the electricity.
This is the second patient bitten by a spider to be treated at SOS Phu Quoc Clinic during the rainy season this year. Doctor Hien said that spider venom is usually alkaline or acidic, similar to bee venom. When they bite, they cause burns at the wound and poisoning the body through the bloodstream.
Doctor Hien recommends that at the end of the rainy season, people should be careful when going out, should bring boots, protective gear to avoid snake, centipede, spider, insect bites. At the same time, people need to proactively clear and clean the environment to avoid insects and snakes hiding near the house.
