The Criminal Police Department (C02, Ministry of Public Security ) has just coordinated with Dak Nong Provincial Police to dismantle a ring that trafficked women to China under the guise of marriage brokerage in Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Nong and the Western provinces.
The police agency temporarily detained 3 masterminds to investigate and clarify the act of "Human trafficking", including: Vay Tuyet Mai (born 1983, in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Thi Nho (born 1985, in Dak Glong district, Dak Nong province), Tran Quang Phat (born 1979, in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City).
Previously, C02 and Dak Nong Provincial Police discovered a ring of women trafficking to China under the guise of marriage brokerage in Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Nong and the Western provinces led by Mai.
After collecting evidence, on December 19, the authorities simultaneously searched and summoned Mai, Nho, Phat, Tran Sieu Khiem (born in 1959, in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City), and Huynh Hong Chi (born in 1983, in Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province).
Based on the collected investigation documents and the statements of the subjects, the police determined that Mai is of Chinese origin, has a Chinese husband and often travels between Vietnam and China.
At the end of 2022, Mai was told by a Vietnamese woman living in China (unknown identity) that there are currently many Chinese men willing to spend money to buy women to be wives. If Mai finds Vietnamese women to sell to Chinese men under the name of marriage brokers, each successful case will be paid from 200 to 300 million VND, depending on the age and beauty of that woman.
To lure the girls, Mai agreed with Nho, Khiem, Phat... to persuade and promise the victims a rich life and a dowry of 80 - 120 million VND if they agreed to go to China to get married.
After selecting the victims, the subjects organized for Chinese guests to meet face-to-face, choosing between two forms: meeting in person in Vietnam or meeting face-to-face via the Internet.
For the victims selected by Chinese customers, Mai and his accomplices would complete the procedures (passport, visa, health certificate, single status certificate, etc.) and then take them to the Vietnam-China border to hand them over and receive money.
Upon arriving in China, the victims were detained, controlled, and had their passports and phones confiscated. They were also required to marry as directed by the group, or else they would have to compensate the entire amount that the Chinese tourists had paid to Mai's group.
Using the above tricks, from May 2023 to present, Mai and his accomplices have deceived, selected and transferred dozens of Vietnamese women to China to receive money.
Some victims, after going to China to get married, discovered that they had been deceived and trafficked, so they fled back to Vietnam or asked family members in Vietnam to report the crime and request rescue.
Searching the suspects' residence, the police seized 2 more citizen identification cards, 2 passports, and 3 marriage status certificates issued to 3 women.
At this time, Mai stated that he and his accomplices were completing the paperwork and procedures for the 7 women to be sold to China. Before Mai and his accomplices could complete the paperwork, they were discovered and arrested by the police.
C02 and the Investigation Police Agency of Dak Nong Province Police request that victims or families whose relatives were tricked and sold to China come to the police agency to report and provide information and documents so that the authorities can consolidate the case and coordinate with the authorities of the neighboring country to promptly rescue the victims back to Vietnam.
