The purely Vietnamese comic series “Ozon Mystery” has been nurtured for more than 15 years, recently published by Kim Dong Publishing House, and has become a new hope for purely Vietnamese comics, with Vietnamese stories, characters, and created by Vietnamese authors. The series is a project of a group of authors including architect Tuan Anh,
sports commentator Anh Quan, and the artist team of TAQUA Group. The series is about a planet in the galaxy called Ozon. Ozon planet has the kingdom of Zendy, the magical sanctuary of the entire planet. Zendy kingdom has two princes, Bono and Tuno, with opposite personalities, and both are on a journey to practice magic, learn, and explore the world. Suddenly one day, the Dark Land appears, threatening the safety of Zendy kingdom. And now, the heroes appear… The creative story revolves around 5 characters, 5 boys, representing the most typical personalities of children, leading young readers into a world of wonderful imagination.

The story has all the elements that make a fantasy comic book attractive, with a rich magic system, a rich nature with countless mysteries to explore, a diverse character system with many races living together: the giant race, the mermaid race, the beast race... and the central TaQua tribe with intelligence and advanced
science and technology. Sharing about his passionate project, architect Tuan Anh said that the group wants to bring to young readers an imaginary world like in a dream, associated with lessons about courage, perseverance and belief in good things sent in the journey to save the planet Ozon of the two princes Bono and Tuno. The system of characters in the story was revealed by the authors to be based on the babies, the children of the authors in the project. Commentator Anh Quan said that most of the authors are married and have children. “We often bring our children to the company to play, chat, even play with them to understand, and from there select and pick the most typical personalities to put into the characters in the story.” To create the story, the team made a great effort. Architect Tuan Anh said that for him, making comics is much more difficult than designing houses. “With houses, I still have images in my head. As for comics, we have no experience at all. I don’t know where to start.” Artist Bach Le said that making a comic project is very difficult, even for those in the profession. First, you have to build a smooth production line to form the story process. As for artist Vu Dinh Lan, making comics based on real life is difficult, but fantasy is even more difficult. You have to imagine a huge system of characters, with different ethnicities, not to mention the setting, the story…

Commentator Anh Quan shares with readers about the series, behind is a board of the author group. |
The group brought to the launch of the series a large board filled with pictures, sticky notes, both notes and lines of dialogue or new directions of development. Architect Tuan Anh said that it was just one of many boards in the company office, where the group of authors debated, dissected, shared or developed ideas together. As for commentator Anh Quan, making comics means "burning" a lot of things: "In the two years of the project, we burned time, energy, effort, money and even emotions. But in return, we understood our children better, and have a long-term project so that young readers have another choice for Vietnamese comics."

Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien, Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House, shared: “We always support and are willing to invest in the ideas and creativity of domestic authors, including Vietnamese comics. In order for domestic works in general and Vietnamese comics in particular to develop, in addition to the efforts of authors and publishers, the support of readers plays an extremely important role”. The authors’ greatest wish is that “Ozone Mystery” will soon have a dignified place on the bookshelves of readers of all ages, alongside other famous comics loved by many generations of readers such as “Doraemon”, “Dragon Ball”, “Detective Conan”… Readers have the right to hope and expect a new generation of purely Vietnamese comics, with appeal and the ability to “run the long run”.
