On February 19, information from the 108 Military Central Hospital said that recently, doctors at this unit provided emergency care to a patient whose leg was caught in an escalator while going to a supermarket.

Specifically, the patient is a 12-year-old boy named VMĐ from Hanoi. According to his family, while playing at a shopping mall, the child was unfortunately caught and had his foot caught in an escalator. The accident caused two large pieces of iron from the escalator to be deeply embedded in the child’s left foot.

Immediately, the technical department of the Trade Center had to intervene urgently, taking the child to the 108 Military Central Hospital for emergency treatment.

Here, Dr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Department of Upper Limb Surgery and Microsurgery, said that the examination results determined that the child was admitted to the hospital with two iron plates deeply embedded in the toes of his feet, with very complex injuries, penetrating from front to back, with many bruises. In addition, the wound was also mixed with foreign objects, which were grease from the escalator plate.

The patient underwent emergency surgery by doctors from the Department of Upper Limb Trauma and Microsurgery. After 3 days of surgery, the wound recovered well and the patient's mental state was stable.

" This incident is a warning to parents when taking their children out, especially when using escalators, to keep an eye on their children. Escalators in supermarkets and shopping malls should also have warnings to keep children safe when using them ," Dr. Vinh advised.

It is known that every day, the Department of Upper Limb Trauma and Microsurgery, 108 Military Central Hospital receives dozens of cases of domestic accidents such as escalator accidents, putting hands in fruit blenders, meat grinders, fish grinders, fabric winches, washing machines, or work accidents...

Therefore, experts recommend that if an accident occurs, the family should provide first aid to the victim and quickly take them to the nearest specialized medical facility for timely emergency treatment.
