Attack on Kyiv

The Kyiv government said on Telegram that the damage from the overnight attack by what it said were Iranian-made Shahed drones was more severe than previously reported. A total of four people were injured, and 100 private homes and 30 apartments were damaged, according to Kyiv officials.

"UAVs flew to Kyiv in groups and from different directions," said Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration.

Ukraine announced that air defense systems protecting the capital shot down 26 out of 33 Shahed UAVs.

Reuters quoted witnesses as saying they heard at least five explosions across Kyiv, and Ukrainian television showed footage of several damaged cars.

The Russian Defense Ministry did not comment on the information but announced that it had sunk three US-made landing speedboats en route to the Crimean peninsula.

The boats were destroyed near Snake Island, and were believed to be carrying up to 36 Ukrainian special forces. Kyiv has not commented on this information.

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley

It is too early to conclude the success or failure of the counter-offensive campaign.

In an interview with the BBC, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said it was still too early to draw conclusions about Ukraine's counter-offensive campaign.

"The counterattack started about 90 days ago. Progress is slower than previously calculated. However, there is a difference between negotiations on paper and real guns and bullets," said the US general.

Is it useless to force Ukrainian officers to learn standard Western tactics?

The general said Ukraine still has 30 to 45 days to deploy the campaign before the weather deteriorates in field conditions.

"I said from the beginning that the counter-offensive would be long, slow, difficult and deadly. That is what happened in reality," he added.

Regarding the counter-offensive campaign, Ukrainian forces announced on September 10 that they had captured 1.5 square kilometers of territory near Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia) in the past 24 hours.

In a separate statement, General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukrainian forces in the south, said his units had advanced another 1 km in the area during the same period.

In 24 hours, Ukrainian artillery carried out 1,391 attacks, killing 72 Russian soldiers, wounding 149 and taking 5 prisoners.

Russia did not comment on the information, but said it destroyed the P-18 air defense radar station near the village of Lukashevo in Zaporizhzhia.

Russia cannot be excluded from the grain initiative

At a press conference after the G20 Summit closed in New Delhi (India) on September 10, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that any attempt to revive the Black Sea grain deal but exclude Russia is not very sustainable.

Russia abandoned the initiative in July, a year after it was brokered by the United Nations and Türkiye.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan persuaded some G20 leaders to meet some of Russia's demands on grain, fertilizer exports.

Mr Erdogan said Russia, Ukraine and Türkiye were continuing discussions on the grain deal, and said there was still hope for the deal to be revived.

The Turkish president also discussed with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on the sidelines of the G20 summit efforts to revive the Black Sea initiative, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Erdogan urged some G20 leaders to meet Russia's demands regarding the deal, Bloomberg reported.
