The New York Times/Siena College poll shows Republicans leading Democrats in Senate races in Montana, Texas and Florida. Democrats currently hold 51 seats in the Senate. But with West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin deciding not to seek re-election, Democrats are at risk of losing more seats. The party’s only hope is to maintain a 50-50 split. Meanwhile, Montana Sen. Jon Tester, one of the most embattled Democrats, trails Republican Tim Sheehy, a wealthy businessman and former Navy SEAL, 52 percent to 44 percent. Montana, with a population of about 1.1 million, has seen a huge amount of money poured into this year’s Senate race. More than $265 million has been spent on television ads related to the race, according to the latest tally. In Montana, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by a wide margin (57% to 40%). This is similar to the advantage that Republican Governor Greg Gianforte has over Democratic challenger Ryan Busse (57% to 35%). In Texas, Republican Senator Ted Cruz leads Democratic challenger Colin Allred by 48% to 44%. In Florida, Republican Senator Rick Scott leads Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by 49% to 40%.
