On June 15, Cho Gao District Police (Tien Giang Province) announced that they had just detained Ngo Thanh Trang (25 years old, residing in Binh Phan Commune, Cho Gao District) to investigate the act of robbery at a gold shop.

According to the police, on June 5, Cho Gao District Police received a report of a robbery that occurred at Ngoc Minh Gold Shop, Binh Phan Commune, Cho Gao District. The district police commander assigned forces to the scene to investigate, track down and then arrest Ngo Thanh Trang.
During questioning, Trang confessed that she had lost money gambling online and was in debt, so she came up with the idea of going to a gold shop and pretending to buy gold to rob it.
At the gold shop, Trang snatched a 10-tael 24K gold necklace, worth more than 56 million VND, and escaped.
Trang then took the necklace to a gold shop in My Tho City and sold it for more than 53 million VND. Trang paid off the debt of 30 million VND, and continued to use the remaining money for gambling and lost it all.
Using a similar trick, on May 27, Trang snatched a 10-tael 18K gold bracelet at Hong Thuy 2 gold shop in Binh Long hamlet, Song Binh commune (Cho Gao district).
The case is being further investigated and handled by the authorities of Tien Giang province in accordance with the provisions of law.
