Arrested subject using fake BTS station to spread scam messages
In information shared on November 1, the Radio Frequency Department (Ministry of Information and Communications) said that professional units under the Ministry of Public Security in the Southern region and Ho Chi Minh City Police have arrested 3 subjects related to the use of fake mobile transceiver stations (fake BTS stations) to infiltrate the public telecommunications network and spread fraudulent messages.
Accordingly, at around 2:00 p.m. on October 31, the Regional Radio Frequency Center II (Center II) received information that there were signs of fake BTS spreading messages in Ho Chi Minh City. Immediately after that, the working group of Center II immediately set off, coordinating with professional units under the Ministry of Public Security in the South and Ho Chi Minh City Police to carry out the task.
At 4:20 p.m. the same day, professional units caught Mr. VAB (a Vietnamese, born in 1977, from Tay Ninh) using a fake BTS device, placed on a 7-seat car, to illegally access telecommunications networks and spread advertising and fraudulent messages.
Expanding the investigation, on the night of October 31, the police arrested two more foreign nationals, who were assessed to have played an important role in organizing and setting up the fake BTS station mentioned above.
Vietnam wins world's largest cyber attack competition
At Pwn2Own Toronto 2023, the team of Viettel Cyber Security Company (Viettel Cyber Security - VCS) officially won the highest victory with 30 'Master of Pwn' points.
This result brought the team a prize of 180,000 USD, and at the same time brought the name of the Vietnamese information security community to the global stage.
This is also the first time a Vietnamese cybersecurity company has won the overall prize at Pwn2Own.
Pwn2Own is the world's largest and most prestigious cyber attack competition, organized annually by the Zero Day Initiative since 2007.
This can be considered the World Cup of the security world with a total prize value of up to millions of USD, constantly attracting "experts" from prestigious technology corporations and leading security experts.
Stop standardizing mobile subscriber information online
According to the official dispatch of the Department of Telecommunications, the pilot period for using online software applications to review and standardize mobile subscriber information has expired according to official dispatch No. 5698/BTTTT-CVT dated November 23, 2022.
The Telecommunications Department requests that businesses seriously stop using all online applications/software to review and standardize mobile subscriber information; requires network operators to report the results of implementing the standardization of mobile subscriber information to the Department.
In the coming time, the Department of Telecommunications will coordinate with units of the Ministry of Information and Communications to organize inspections, monitor and strictly handle cases of network operators intentionally violating.
Previously, the state management agency allowed network operators to standardize customer mobile subscriber information online, to make it easier for people to standardize the subscriber information they are using. However, up to this point, subscriber information standardization can be exploited to register new subscribers.
Vietnam moves up in postal development integration index
According to the assessment of the Universal Postal Union - UPU, Vietnam's integrated index of postal development (2IPD) in 2022 increased by 4.5 points, reaching a total score of 51. Notably, the score on reliability increased the most, from 79.6 points to 90 points.
With the above results, Vietnam is ranked by the UPU in the group of countries achieving level 6 in the 2IPD postal development index, up 1 level compared to the previous assessment period.
The State of Global Postal Developments 2022 report was launched at the 4th Extraordinary Congress of the UPU in 2023 in Saudi Arabia in October 2023.
Vietnam's digital economy expected to reach 45 billion USD by 2025
Google, Temasek and Bain & Co have just released the Southeast Asia Digital Economy Report 2023. The report covers 6 countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia with a total population of 605 million people.
In 2023, Southeast Asia's digital economy is expected to reach 100 billion USD in revenue, up 27% compared to 2021 and an 8-fold increase after 8 years.
According to a report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Co, the total merchandise volume (GMV) of Vietnam's digital economy in 2023 is estimated to reach 30 billion USD, an increase of 19% compared to 2022 and is expected to reach 45 billion USD in 2025, 90 - 200 billion USD in 2030.
Of which, e-commerce GMV contributed about 16 billion USD, transportation and food 3 billion USD, online travel 5 billion USD and online entertainment 5 billion USD this year.
Regarding digital financial services, the total transaction value of digital payments (including credit cards, debit cards, prepaid cards, A2A cards, e-wallets) in 2023 is estimated to reach 126 billion USD, digital lending is estimated to reach 4 billion USD.
Regarding private equity funds, there was a slight growth in the first half of the year thanks to activities in young fields such as enterprises, medical technology, education technology, AI, Web3/crypto, assets, cars, etc.
