A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll suggests that the indictments against former US President Donald Trump have not significantly changed Americans’ views of him, allowing him to maintain his footing in the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race.
Specifically, 81% of Republicans said the allegations against him were politically motivated, meaning they believe Mr. Trump is being brought down by false rumors ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Still, 62% of respondents, including 91% of Democrats and 35% of Republicans, said Mr Trump illegally stored classified documents at his Florida home.
On the afternoon of June 9, specific charges against Mr. Trump, including obstruction of justice, were announced. Accordingly, the former President was indicted on 37 counts, after he illegally retained top secret files on nuclear and weapons programs, as well as US defense plans after leaving the White House.
