Preserving traditional sports and games in the ASEAN community

(Chinhphu.vn) - At the 3rd ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports with China (SOMS + China-3), delegates focused on discussing China's support for the implementation of the ASEAN-China Traditional Sports and Games Rehabilitation Project as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Reporting at the Conference, the ASEAN Secretariat summarized China's proposal to coordinate between the two organizations in preserving traditional sports and games in ASEAN countries to develop sports economy and sports tourism in the period of 2021-2025. At the same time, coordinate with UNESCO to promote the implementation to conduct research and provide guidelines for protecting traditional sports and games of ASEAN. The representative of the General Administration of Sports of China said: The Conference is an important bridge between ASEAN and China, the two sides have achieved many important results contributing to promoting mutual understanding as well as strengthening friendship between China and ASEAN member countries. Talking about this Project, the representative of the General Administration of Sports of China shared that traditional sports and games in today's modern world need the joint efforts of member countries. China will provide strong support to cooperate in developing information technology in preserving this Project and at the same time develop cultural and sports dialogue between China and ASEAN. At the Conference, representatives of several countries also expressed the need to protect traditional sports and games. The Indonesian delegate said that in the current digital age, the preservation of traditional sports and games needs to be protected. Therefore, there should be annual seminars to enhance the exchange of methods and approaches of each country, especially the application of digital technology in this issue. Indonesia's opinion has received much support from member countries, including Vietnam. Vietnam also hopes that this Project will achieve the desired results and thereby become an Intangible Heritage and become a highlight in the relationship between ASEAN and China. At the end of the meeting, Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports Dang Ha Viet (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) emphasized: After 3 days of serious and effective work with a huge amount of work, the member countries had many constructive opinions, thereby demonstrating a sense of responsibility for the development of ASEAN in general and Southeast Asian Sports in particular.
