WHEN THE MUSEUM IS LOCATED IN A MONUMENT
Responding to Thanh Nien reporters, Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of Da Nang Museum, said that the construction unit of the new museum (located at 42-44 Bach Dang, Hai Chau District) is urgently carrying out the final items to prepare for the opening of the museum on March 29, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang City. The work of moving artifacts to display in the new museum's spaces is also about to be completed. "This is a very important event for Da Nang's cultural sector, because when the new museum, expected to be a new cultural symbol of Da Nang, comes into operation, it is also the time when phase 2 of the project to restore the special national relic of Dien Hai citadel is implemented. After completion, Da Nang Museum and Dien Hai citadel will become highlights in the cultural and historical space of the city," Mr. Thien assessed.
The old building of the new Da Nang Museum has been completely renovated.
Thus, after nearly 15 years of "living off" in the core area of Dien Hai Citadel, Da Nang Museum will be moved to a "new home" on a total area of 8,686 m², including a newly built museum block (1 basement, 3 upper floors) attached to 3 blocks of buildings 42 - 44 Bach Dang and 31 Tran Phu that have been renovated and upgraded. With a total investment of up to more than 500 billion VND and a massive infrastructure located on 3 fronts (Bach Dang - Quang Trung - Tran Phu streets) and right next to the Han River, the new Da Nang Museum, although not yet exploited, has become a check-in point for many people and tourists. Not to mention the "transformation" with beautiful paint colors, the blocks of buildings with strong French architecture have really attracted people. This is the relic of the Governor's Palace built by the French more than 120 years ago.
"The formation of a new function for the Governor's Palace is very appropriate, because the building itself is a historical artifact and exists as a witness to time. This is the place built by the French to serve as the headquarters of the government apparatus. In the fall of 1945, the red flag with a yellow star flew on the flagpole of the Governor's Palace, signaling the success of the August Revolution in Da Nang. During the Republic of Vietnam period, this was the City Hall - the largest power center of Da Nang City for the US and the government. On March 29, 1975, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam flew on the roof of the City Hall. Later, this was still the working building of the People's Committee and People's Council of Da Nang City. Through many historical changes, this building has always been chosen as the headquarters of the government apparatus. This affirms the stature and special value of a symbolic building for the people of the city," the Director of the Da Nang Museum added.
The 120-year-old Governor's Palace itself, which serves as the base of the Da Nang Museum, has much appeal due to its French architectural art.
" SYMPHONY" OF SPACES
The neoclassical architectural style with simple symmetry helps the Governor's Palace maintain its appeal after 120 years of construction. Therefore, after moving the Da Nang Museum to a new location, researchers assessed that this will be a new cultural symbol of Da Nang, opening up opportunities to promote the role of introducing historical artifacts and documents to the public. The Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City said that with the goal of making the museum a highlight in the eyes of the people and tourists and can be considered as the "ceremony room" of the city in welcoming diplomatic delegations, for the first time Da Nang City has a cultural work that has organized an international architectural competition and consulted on the content and display form of the museum.
Modern exhibition space combined with digital technology attracts visitors
Moving artifacts to a new facility, Da Nang Museum has renewed itself from form to display content.
The exhibition spaces at the Da Nang Museum promise to attract tourists.
According to Thanh Nien reporters, Da Nang Museum applies 4.0 technology to create attractive experiential spaces. With modern investment, applying digital technology to the operation process, the unique highlight of the museum is the LED board system, automatic film projection system, automatic sensor equipment, 3D technology... helping visitors interact better. "This is an opportunity for Da Nang Museum to innovate its display in terms of scale, content, form, and update new perspectives and techniques from Vietnam and the world on display science. Thereby, making Da Nang Museum a highlight in the overall planning of the cultural and historical square along the Han River", said Mr. Thien.
After a year of consultations and three scientific seminars to gather opinions from experts in the museum field as well as members of the Department of Cultural Heritage and the National Cultural Heritage Council, the detailed outline of the Da Nang Museum exhibition was approved. The exhibition content is built on the basis of six areas: permanent exhibition, thematic exhibition, open storage exhibition, limited-time exhibition, research and development exhibition, and outdoor exhibition.
Notably, if the Governor's Palace was previously surrounded by a fence, it has now been dismantled to bring the outdoor exhibition space closer to the public. This will be a space for large-scale artifacts and an ideal space for visitors to admire valuable artifacts and take souvenir photos of their visit to the museum. "We expect that after being put into operation, the Da Nang Museum will become an attractive destination for the public. This is not only a destination for tourists and museum lovers, but also a community space serving the needs of learning, research, sightseeing, and cultural enjoyment of the people of Da Nang City," Mr. Thien expressed.
Overwhelmed by modern space
At first glance at the ancient French architecture of the Da Nang Museum, many people find it difficult to imagine that inside the museum is a space "full of technology". Just stepping through the door, visitors will be exposed to the most modern museum technology. All museum spaces use 3D mapping technology, 2D and 3D films are automatically projected, image slides are connected in time through the art of light, audiovisual art, color art...
