The tournament saw many famous players winning medals in its key events this time.

The standard and blitz chess events of the men's and women's categories at the 2024 National Excellent Chess Tournament have concluded in Hai Phong.
In the standard chess, in the men's group, after 9 games, grandmaster Nguyen Duc Hoa (Army) rose to the number 1 position to win the men's individual gold medal with a total of 7 points. In the games played, grandmaster Nguyen Duc Hoa did not lose any game but had 5 wins and 4 draws. Behind were 3 players Nguyen Van Huy (Hanoi), Tran Ngoc Minh Duy (Dong Nai), Tran Tuan Minh (Hanoi) all achieved 6.5 points after 9 games. In terms of secondary index, Nguyen Van Huy was the runner-up and Tran Ngoc Minh Duy was the 3rd place.
In the women's standard chess, young face Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong (HCMC) played excellently to win the individual gold medal with a total of 7 points after 9 games. Thuy Duong lost only in game 7 to player Nguyen Binh Vy (Hanoi), the rest she achieved 6 wins and 2 draws to finish in first place. Player Nguyen Hong Anh (HCMC) had the same 7 points but was inferior in the secondary index so she was in second place. In the women's standard chess table, some famous faces such as Hoang Thi Bao Tram (HCMC) ranked 5th, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (Binh Duong) ranked 7th, and young player Nguyen Thien Ngan (Hanoi) ranked 8th.
The men's and women's rapid chess events have also concluded their matches at the tournament. The men's division witnessed the individual championship of grandmaster Le Tuan Minh when he won 8 points after 9 games. Second place was Nguyen Duc Viet (Hanoi) with 7.5 points and third place was Nguyen Van Hai (Hanoi) with 7 points. Notably, the top 7 positions in this event were chess players from Hanoi. In the rapid chess event of the women's division, 6 players Nguyen Hong Anh (HCMC), Hoang Thi Bao Tram (HCMC), Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (Binh Duong), Nguyen Xuan Thi (Can Tho), Nguyen Hong Nhung (Hanoi), Nguyen Thi Thanh An (HCMC) fiercely competed for the championship. After 9 games, Nguyen Hong Anh achieved a total of 7.5 points to win the championship this year.
The tournament will continue until August 19 and players will continue to compete in blitz and super blitz chess for men and women.
