From April 7 to April 11, a delegation from Hue Central Hospital, led by Professor, Doctor Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of the Hospital, along with professors, doctors, and medical experts in the fields of surgery, endoscopy, and anesthesia and resuscitation, came to work in the capital city of Vientiane (Laos).

During the 5-day working session, the delegation visited and worked at Mahosot Central Hospital - the first and largest Western hospital in Laos, established in 1903. Endoscopists, gastroenterologists, and anesthesiologists of Hue Central Hospital directly guided related specialists of Mahosot Hospital to perform modern endoscopic gastrointestinal intervention techniques on 8 patients. All patients who received intervention achieved good results and were discharged in good health afterwards.
The delegation of Hue Central Hospital also conducted a survey of the current status of infrastructure, machinery, equipment, human resources, etc. of Mahosot Hospital. From there, the two sides discussed the contents of professional and training cooperation, especially priority areas of cooperation in the coming time.
Previously, in 2017, Professor Pham Nhu Hiep and a delegation from Hue Central Hospital had a working trip to Laos and signed a 5-year memorandum of understanding with the Department of Health of 5 provinces of Savannakhet, Champasak, Salavan, Sekong and Attapu (Laos) on cooperation in medical examination and treatment, training of medical staff, referral and socialization of healthcare. |

According to Lao Minister of Health Bounfeng Phoummalaysith, cooperation in the health sector between Vietnam and Laos plays an important role and is increasingly developing. In recent times, Hue Central Hospital has always actively supported the health care work of Lao people.
Regarding training and technology transfer, up to now, Hue Central Hospital has provided free training for 1-3 months (9 months free for 1 student specializing in internal medicine) for Lao doctors and technicians. Training courses on: Basic endoscopic surgery; Gastrointestinal endoscopic surgery; Cardiovascular intervention; Anesthesia and resuscitation nursing; Operating room instruments; Anesthesia technicians.... Along with that are training courses on ultrasound such as: Vascular Doppler ultrasound; General ultrasound; 4D echocardiography...
Regarding public health care, from 2017 to present, Hue Central Hospital has received nearly 7,000 Lao patients for examination and treatment.
Mr. Bounfeng Phoummalaysith affirmed that the working trip of the Hue Central Hospital delegation to Mahosot Central Hospital this time has further promoted the friendly cooperation between the health sectors of the two countries. At the same time, he directed the Lao health sector to create all conditions and support for the Hue Central Hospital delegation in upcoming activities.
According to Professor Pham Nhu Hiep, in the next phase, Hue Central Hospital will coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Health of Thua Thien Hue province to expand cooperation beyond the five provinces that have previously signed a memorandum of understanding so that people in other provinces of Laos can enjoy better health care.
The Lao Ministry of Health recommends that people aged 12 and above, people with underlying diseases, and people with moderate or severe immunodeficiency should get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine because immunity from the first two doses of the vaccine has decreased over time. |
Vietnam continues to support Laos in training, technology transfer, and medical examination and treatment support, aiming to improve the professional qualifications of medical and pharmaceutical staff, to best serve the health of Lao people and Vietnamese people in Laos. |
