
On the morning of September 25, leaders of the People's Committee of Vung Tau city, along with functional departments, Thang Nhi ward and Ward 5, went to Ben Da port, Vung Tau city, to welcome and visit 11 fishermen of the fishing boat BV 99778 TS that sank in the waters of Con Dao due to a collision with a cargo ship on September 19.
Vice Chairman of Vung Tau City People's Committee Vu Hong Thuan visited, encouraged and presented gifts to the fishermen in distress; hoping that the fishermen would overcome their loss and soon stabilize their lives to continue working and producing. At the same time, he said that the city always accompanies and supports the fishermen.
As reported, at 1:30 p.m. on September 19, fishing boat BV 99778 TS collided with a cargo ship in the waters of Con Dao, causing the fishing boat to sink. There were 14 fishermen on board, of which 12 were rescued by fishing boats BV 99359 TS and BV 99278 TS and taken to Con Dao (one seriously injured fisherman was immediately transferred to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment), the remaining 2 fishermen are missing.
Upon receiving the information and implementing the direction of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, the authorities quickly mobilized forces to the scene to search for the two missing fishermen.
After more than 2 days and nights of searching in weather conditions of level 6, level 7, gusts of level 8, at 10:00 on September 22, CSB 2011 ship of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, discovered a body of a victim of fishing boat BV 99778 TS drifting at sea 12 nautical miles northeast of the location of the ship in distress and coordinated with SAR 413 ship to pick it up for preservation. On the night of September 23, SAR 413 ship departed from the scene to bring the fisherman's body back to shore and hand it over to the authorities and family for funeral arrangements.
Rescue forces continue to broadcast distress signals and request vehicles operating around the area where the fishing boat sank to keep watch and search for the remaining missing fishermen.
In addition, 11 fishermen who escaped were taken to Con Dao for medical care, accommodation, and mental stabilization, and on the evening of September 24 departed for Vung Tau to reunite with their families.
