In Pennsylvania, Ms. Harris won 48% support, Mr. Trump followed closely with 46%, while 4% said they were still undecided. Most voters in Michigan and Pennsylvania said they would not change their mind about going to the polls in November. The two vice presidential candidates, Republican Senator JD Vance and Democratic Governor Tim Walz, will debate next week. Polls show that in a tight race between the two presidential candidates in the final stretch, any major mistake or “knockout” by one of the vice presidential candidates could change the outcome. Speaking on MSNBC this week, historian Douglas Brinkley said this could be “the most important vice presidential debate” in US history.

On immigration, facing repeated attacks from former President Trump and Republicans over their inability to handle the crisis at the southern border, Harris plans to visit the US-Mexico border in Arizona on September 27 with proposals to send new agents to the border and apply technology to stop the flow of fentanyl precursors into the country. In an NBC News poll released earlier this month, a majority of voters said Trump would do a better job of securing the border than Harris.
