(CLO) After weeks of speculation, Apple officially launched the MacBook Air M4 last Wednesday. The latest laptop model with the new Apple Silicon chip comes with an attractive starting price of only $999.
Like previous hardware launches, Apple gradually phased out older models. Specifically, shortly after introducing the MacBook Air M4, Apple quietly stopped selling the MacBook Air M2 and M3 on its official website.
MacBook Air M4 launched in new color Sky blue.
That doesn't mean the MacBook Air M2 and M3 are going away completely, though. Retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Best Buy are still selling them at rock-bottom prices to clear out inventory.
The MacBook Air M4 is widely considered one of the best values Apple has ever released. The MacBook Air line with M-series chips has always been highly regarded for its performance and durability. Now, with a starting price of less than $1,000 — $100 less than the launch price of the MacBook Air M3 — the laptop becomes even more attractive.
Although it hasn't officially hit shelves yet, the MacBook Air M4's specs have been revealed. It comes in two screen sizes: 13.6 inches and 15.3 inches, along with a brand new Sky Blue color option in addition to the standard colors.
The device uses an M4 chip with a 10-core CPU and a GPU of up to 10 cores. Apple claims that the performance of the MacBook Air M4 is twice as powerful as the MacBook Air M1. A leaked performance test shows that the score of the MacBook Air M4 is higher than the MacBook Air M3, approaching the power of the MacBook Pro M4.
The MacBook Air M4 comes with a minimum of 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with the option to upgrade to 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. The front-facing camera has also been upgraded to a 12MP Center Stage, up from the 1080p FaceTime HD camera on the MacBook Air M3. Another notable improvement is the ability to support two external displays - something previous versions could not do.
Apple has opened pre-orders for the MacBook Air M4 on its website and the product will officially hit shelves on March 12.
