National award-winning work by photographer Tran Tuan Viet

The work was taken by photographer Tran Tuan Viet at dawn in October 2023, at Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh. The photo captures the moment when the statue of Buddha Tay Bo Da Son appears and disappears in the clouds and early morning sunlight, in harmony with the beautiful natural picture of Ba Mountain, creating a magical scene.

Ba Den Mountain is known as the "Roof of the South", and is also a sacred place associated with the legend of Linh Son Thanh Mau, attracting millions of pilgrims and worshippers every year.

In particular, large-scale spiritual works such as the statue of Buddha Tay Bo Da Son and the statue of Bodhisattva Maitreya, created from 6,688 sandstones, are increasingly enhancing the sacred beauty and rich nature of the land, contributing to making Ba Mountain an endless source of inspiration for the photography community.

The Buddha statue of Tay Bo Da Son in the work is 72m high, cast from more than 170 tons of red copper, setting the record for "The tallest bronze Buddha statue in Asia located on the top of a mountain".

The author's black and white photo also won an honorable mention in the 2023 International Monochrome Photography Competition, Nature category for Professional Photographers.

The author shared that he still clearly remembers the feeling of sitting in the clouds, listening to the peaceful echoes of Buddhist music on the top of Ba Den Mountain. "Perhaps I have never composed in such a space, when the clouds covered the mountain, the view below was only a few meters, but with a flycam, I saw a very amazing scene when the Buddha statue appeared and disappeared in the clouds," he said.
