*Philippines considers raising East Sea issue at UN General Assembly: Congressman Joseph Gilbert F. Violago of Nueva Ecija province (Philippines) said on September 18 that the Philippines is considering bringing the maritime dispute with China to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs plans to submit a resolution to the UN General Assembly regarding the Philippines' territorial claims in the West Philippine Sea," Mr. Violago said.

Tensions between the Philippines and China have increased over the past year as Beijing continues to block resupply operations to Second Thomas Shoal, where Manila has some troops stationed on a grounded naval vessel.

*UK summons Russian ambassador over spying allegations: On September 18, the British government said it had summoned the Russian ambassador to condemn what it called Moscow's "unfounded and unprecedented campaign of public aggression" against the UK.

Ambassador Andrei Kelin was informed that Russia's actions, including "malicious and completely unfounded" espionage accusations against six British diplomats, violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The criticism comes after Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced last week that the accreditation of British diplomats had been revoked on suspicion of espionage and "threatening Russia's security". Six British diplomats have left Russia and been replaced.

*European Parliament calls for lifting restrictions on attacking Russia: On September 19, the European Parliament (EP) passed a resolution calling on European Union (EU) countries to immediately lift all restrictions on Ukraine in attacking deep into Russian territory.

The resolution was adopted by 425 votes in favour, 131 against and 63 abstentions at a plenary session in Strasbourg. MEPs said that insufficient supplies of ammunition and weapons, along with restrictions on the use of weapons, were threatening to undermine efforts to support Ukraine.

In addition, the resolution also calls on EU member states to maintain and expand sanctions against Russia, Belarus and non-EU countries and organizations that provide military and dual-use technology to Russia.

However, EP resolutions on foreign policy are only advisory and not binding on EU institutions and member states. (Sputniknews)
