Ancelotti: 'Real has not shown the best version'

VnExpressVnExpress01/05/2024

Germany According to coach Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid did not play at their best in the 2-2 draw with Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

"Bayern showed their best version, but we haven't. But we have time to show that next week," the Real coach said after the match at the Allianz Arena on the evening of April 30. "This is a good result, but the opportunity is still open for both."

Bayern started the match better but Real opened the scoring when Toni Kroos passed the ball to Vinicius, who ran down and beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. In the second half, the home team took better advantage of their chances and turned the game around. Leroy Sane first broke through and shot into the near corner to equalize 1-1 for Bayern. Then Harry Kane took a penalty to make it 2-1 after Lucas Vazquez fouled Jamal Musiala. However, Real were still lucky enough to avoid defeat. In the 83rd minute, Vinicius scored a penalty to equalize 2-2 after defender Kim Min-jae fouled Rodrygo.

According to Ancelotti, Real did not defend with the intensity they wanted in the first half, applying more pressure after Bayern took the lead but not enough. He also admitted that Sane had a great shot to equalise for Bayern, but said Real's defence made mistakes in allowing the Bayern winger to break through and finish freely in the box.

Yesterday, Vinicius played inside like a real No. 9, not out wide like before, and succeeded with a double. In which he impressed with the movement to receive Kroos' through ball. "Vinicius has learned to move without the ball and attack in behind the defender. He is very cool in front of the opponent's goal," added the Real coach.

Regarding the substitution of Kroos in the middle of the second half, Ancelotti explained that the team needed new energy. He also said that he withdrew Jude Bellingham in the 75th minute due to cramp.

Ancelotti is hoping to beat Bayern at home at the Bernabeu in the second leg on May 8. He called on fans to continue coming to the stadium to cheer and inspire them like in previous victories. "We have the opportunity to play another final. The fans will help us," Ancelotti added.

Before the second leg of the semi-final, Real will have to host Cadiz in round 34 of La Liga. However, the Bernabeu team does not need to put in key players in this match because they are 11 points ahead of Barca. They only need to win two more out of their last five matches to win La Liga.
