India wishes to continuously promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.

On the afternoon of October 16, at the Government headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam and co-chairing the 18th meeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

Congratulating India on its recent achievements in economy, defense, science and technology, etc., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the long-standing traditional friendship between the two nations, founded by the great leaders of the two nations, President Ho Chi Minh and Mahatma Gandhi, and nurtured by many generations and people of the two countries.

The Prime Minister affirmed Vietnam's importance to the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expressed satisfaction with the strong development of bilateral relations in recent times.

The Prime Minister welcomed the two Foreign Ministries for successfully organizing the Joint Committee Meeting with many important results, promptly proposing measures to remove obstacles, actively bringing cooperation areas into more substantive and effective form; requested the Foreign Ministries of the two countries to make efforts to implement the results of the Meeting, including coordination, good preparation for high-level activities on channels, regularly maintaining bilateral cooperation mechanisms and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

Expressing his delight at his first official visit to Vietnam and thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation, the Indian Foreign Minister highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in socio-economic development and foreign affairs.

Minister S. Jaishankar affirmed that India considers Vietnam an important partner in the region in implementing the Act East policy and wishes to continuously promote the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam.

On this occasion, Minister S. Jaishankar conveyed the regards of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, expressing his hope to welcome the Prime Minister to an official visit to India in the near future.

Regarding specific areas, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the defense and security cooperation between the two countries; proposed that India continue to support Vietnam in training and improving the capacity of security and defense forces; and promote cooperation in cyber security.

Emphasizing the complementary strengths of the two economies, the head of the Vietnamese Government requested relevant ministries and sectors of the two sides to make efforts to implement measures to further increase two-way trade turnover, towards the target of 20 billion USD as agreed at the 18th Meeting of the Joint Committee of the two countries.

Accordingly, the two sides need to further facilitate the opening of markets for each other's products; limit the application of trade barriers; consider negotiating and signing cooperation documents to create a favorable corridor for trade and investment activities, promote connectivity between the two economies in terms of goods, services, interbank payments and digital payments...

The Prime Minister suggested that India encourage large corporations to invest in Vietnam in strategically important areas such as infrastructure, seaports, logistics, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, and renewable energy.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated and proposed that India continue to support Vietnam in the fields of education, training, culture, especially providing scholarships, and restoring cultural relics; hoped that India would facilitate Vietnamese airlines to open more direct flights to major cities in India; suggested that the two sides actively expand cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, climate change response and energy transformation, green growth, etc.

Minister S. Jaishankar affirmed that he will closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to implement the results achieved at the 18th meeting of the Joint Committee, contributing to deepening the bilateral relationship, especially in the fields of defense-security, economy, trade, investment, science and technology. The Minister suggested that both sides speed up the procedures for recognizing each other's agricultural products.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized that, in the face of increasingly complex and unpredictable developments in the international and regional situation, India always attaches importance to cooperative relations with Vietnam in particular and ASEAN in general; affirming that India is always ready to engage more strongly with the region, contributing a positive voice to maintain peace, stability, and promote cooperation and development in the region.

Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India's stance supporting ASEAN's central role and ASEAN's basic principles in resolving regional issues, including the East Sea issue.
