(NLDO)- Airbus Group provides advanced defense technology solutions, designed to enhance national capabilities and contribute to regional stability.
At a press conference ahead of the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 (VIDEX 2024), Airbus leaders on December 18 shared about the group's growing role in Vietnam's defense sector.
According to Mr. Zakir Hamid, General Director of Airbus Defense & Space Asia Pacific, one of the important defense products is the C295 aircraft, a highly versatile medium-class tactical transport aircraft that has demonstrated its quality and capability in military transport, medical emergency and air logistics missions. The Vietnam Air Defense - Air Force is operating 3 of these aircraft.
Airbus also plays a key role in developing the C295’s operational and maintenance capabilities domestically, helping to improve mission readiness and reduce external dependence. This cooperation helps maintain stability and safety for C295 fleet operations, enhance rapid response capabilities and thereby strengthen Vietnam’s long-term military objectives.
At VIDEX 2024, Airbus introduced the C295 MPA anti-submarine version equipped with high-resolution cameras (surveillance and infrared) to distinguish targets; multi-mission radar to detect long-range targets, torpedoes: attack submarines; hydroacoustic reconnaissance system and sonobuoys to detect and locate submarines; automatic identification system to detect and identify ships; broadband SATCOM satellite communication system for transmitting mission data; magnetic detectors, submarine detection...
"Airbus is ready to cooperate with Vietnam to develop the C295 fleet and other versions including the Maritime Surveillance version, to enhance Vietnam's air transport capacity as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities in protecting Vietnam's airspace and territorial waters," said Mr. Zakir Hamid.
According to Mr. Zakir Hamid, different versions of the C295 aircraft have similar characteristics. This advantage helps operating units simplify training, conversion, streamline maintenance and repair activities, and flexibly and easily convert configurations for different missions from tactical transport to maritime patrol.
At the same time, in the field of space technology, Airbus is strengthening its commitment to strategic cooperation with Vietnam. At VIDEX 2024, Airbus will strive to expand its cooperative relationships with partners in Vietnam, focusing on developing and enhancing Vietnam's capacity in space technology applications.
These initiatives aim to open up future cooperation opportunities, with a focus on areas such as the development of data fusion, processing and transmission systems, the provision of high-resolution satellite imagery and secure communications systems.
Mr. Thomas Zeman, Director of Sales and Marketing for Airbus Helicopters Asia Pacific, said that at VIDEX 2024, Airbus also introduced the H225M helicopter, a multi-role military helicopter that has been proven in real combat conditions, to strengthen Vietnam's helicopter fleet.
Designed for troop transport, Search and Rescue (SAR), and high-risk missions, the H225M military helicopter offers exceptional heavy-lift capability. These superior features make the H225M ideal for a wide range of complex and difficult missions.
Similarly, the H145 helicopter series, widely known for its versatility and compact design, is optimized for medical transport, emergency ambulance, public service, and coastal patrol missions. The recently upgraded H145 model with a 5-blade main rotor system increases the helicopter’s payload capacity by 150 kg, thereby further improving its performance. The new H145 series will make Vietnam’s helicopter fleet more versatile and flexible for missions requiring rapid response in Vietnam’s diverse terrain.
Airbus will also debut for the first time in Vietnam, the next-generation Flexrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAS) model (1:1 full-scale model) at VIDEX 2024.
Designed for intelligence, surveillance, target designation and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions, the Flexrotor UAS can flexibly support the missions of the Vietnam People's Navy and the Vietnam Coast Guard. With more than 3,700 hours of combat flight on land and at sea, the Flexrotor is the optimal solution to enhance Vietnam's security and surveillance capabilities.
Airbus Vietnam General Director Hoang Tri Mai added: "In the context that Vietnam's defense spending is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.6%, reaching US$10.2 billion by the end of this decade, Airbus has strategic advantages to accompany Vietnam in the process of defense modernization, providing advanced solutions and technologies to enhance aircraft operation capabilities, stabilize the regional situation and realize long-term security goals.
"Our outstanding advantage is that we always ensure mission readiness in Airbus products. We comply with all supply chain control regulations and currently do not encounter any problems with supply restrictions in our partnership with Vietnam," Mr. Thomas Zeman emphasized.
Visitors can learn more about these cutting-edge solutions at the Airbus Exhibition Area, at Stand 37, Hall B, Vietnam International Defence Exhibition VIDEX 2024.
