Many Canadian universities have around 30% of their total student body as international students, with some being among the world's top universities.

According to statistics released by Statista in January, Canada is one of the three countries with the most international students in the world. The country has many attractive features for international students, such as a safe learning environment, lower tuition fees compared to the US and the UK, and a Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) policy that facilitates permanent residency. In 2022 alone, Canada welcomed over 500,000 international students, a 24% increase compared to 2021.

Here are the top eight Canadian universities with the highest percentage of international students, according to this year's Times Higher Education (THE) rankings:

1. University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia has the highest percentage of international students of all universities in Canada – 34% of its more than 58,000 undergraduate students.

The university has two campuses, one in Vancouver and one in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. It is ranked 3rd in Canada and 34th globally according to the 2024 QS rankings. Its top-rated programs include Animal and Plant Sciences, Environment/Ecosystems, Social Sciences, and Public Health .

The school's acceptance rate is approximately 50% at the Vancouver campus and 70% at the Okanagan campus. Tuition fees for international students in the 2023-2024 academic year range from CAD 42,500 to CAD 58,600 (VND 770 million to VND 1 billion).

2. Concordia University

In second place for the proportion of international students is Concordia University. The university currently has approximately 35,400 students, 34% of whom are international students.

Concordia University, located in Montreal, Quebec, is ranked 17th best university in Canada by QS. Its outstanding programs include Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Engineering in general.

The acceptance rate at the school is 78%. This academic year, tuition fees for international students range from 27,600 to 33,300 CAD (500-600 million VND).

3. Simon Fraser University

Simon Fraser University has the third highest percentage of international students in Canada – 31% of its total 37,400 undergraduate students.

Simon Fraser University has campuses in three cities in British Columbia: Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver. The university is ranked 13th among the best universities in Canada. Its strong academic programs include Social Sciences , Public Health, Environmental Health, and Computer Science.

The acceptance rate for the school is approximately 60% of the total number of applicants. The tuition fee for the 2023-2024 academic year at Simon Fraser is CAD 32,700 (VND 590 million).

4. McGill

McGill University, located in Montreal, Quebec, has the fourth highest number of international students in Canada. Of the nearly 6,400 students who enrolled last year, approximately 1,900 came from other countries, representing 30%.

This is the second-best university in Canada and 30th globally, according to QS. Its top-performing programs include Neuroscience and Behavioral Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Infectious Diseases.

The university accepts approximately 47% of applications. New international students enrolling this year will have to pay between CAD 28,600 and CAD 68,900 (VND 520 million to VND 1.2 billion) in tuition fees, depending on their major.

5. University of Windsor

Windsor University, located in the city of the same name in Ontario, also has nearly 30% of its total student body (16,300) being international students.

The university is ranked 21st in the QS list of top universities in Canada in 2024. Its prestigious programs include Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Engineering, and Computer Science.

The University of Windsor has an acceptance rate of approximately 60%. This year's tuition fees range from CAD 38,400 to CAD 43,400 (VND 690-780 million) for international students.

6. Dalhousie University

Located in the province of Nova Scotia, Dalhousie University has 16,000 undergraduate students, of whom more than 28% are international students, ranking sixth in Canada.

Ranked among the top 12 universities in Canada, Dalhousie offers top-tier programs in Environmental Science, Geological Sciences, and Psychiatry/Psychology.

The headmaster has an acceptance rate of approximately 70%. New international students enrolling this year will have to pay tuition fees of CAD 26,000-41,000 (VND 470-740 million).

7. University of Alberta

The University of Alberta is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Of its more than 32,300 students, 9,100 are international students, or 28%.

Alberta is ranked the fourth best university in Canada by both QS and US News. The university is highly rated in the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Agricultural Sciences, and Food Technology.

The school's acceptance rate is 58%. This academic year, tuition fees for international students range from CAD 29,200 to CAD 96,500 (VND 530 million to VND 1.7 billion).

8. York University

York University, located in Toronto, Ontario, also has 28% international students. However, with over 52,000 students, the number of international students is 14,500, higher than that of the University of Alberta.

QS ranks York University as the 16th best university in Canada. The university excels in Economics and Business, Arts and Humanities, and Psychiatry and Psychology.

Approximately 60% of applications to the school are accepted. International students will have to pay between CAD 32,400 and CAD 40,300 (approximately VND 590-740 million) in tuition fees this year.
