The victory of Binh Gia was a milestone in the history of the resistance war against the US to save the country. For the first time, the Central Bureau, the Military Commission and the Regional Command directed the organization to use the main force with concentrated combat methods to defeat the strong mobile regular force of the Saigon army.
On the morning of November 22, in Vung Tau City (Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province), the Ministry of National Defense chaired and coordinated with the Central Propaganda Department and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province to organize a scientific conference with the theme: "60 years of Binh Gia Victory - Historical values and lessons learned".
Attending the event were Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; Ms. Dinh Thi Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Pham Viet Thanh - Secretary of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, along with leaders of the Ministry of National Defense; Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and scientists, historical witnesses, and veteran cadres.
Speaking at the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet said that the Binh Gia victory had important significance in the process of the resistance war against the US to save the country, marking the development in the thinking of directing and operating the revolutionary war of the Party Central Committee and the Central Office for Southern Vietnam;
Affirming the role of military struggle and the position of the armed forces. The victory of Binh Gia contributed to accelerating the bankruptcy of the "Special War" strategy, forcing the US and the Saigon government to switch to the "Local War" strategy.
The success of the campaign creatively applied the method of "Attack the point and destroy reinforcements", choosing the exact trigger point, creating a position, creating opportunities and organizing, using appropriate forces to win key battles, leaving valuable experiences for the following campaigns.
Sharing at the workshop, Secretary of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province Pham Viet Thanh affirmed that the victory of Binh Gia campaign demonstrated the coordination of operations between three fronts: Military - Politics - Military propaganda on the battlefield of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; successfully completing three goals: Destroying a part of the enemy's forces; supporting the political struggle movement, destroying strategic hamlets; expanding the liberated zone close to the sea, building the Central's reception side from the North to the South; making an important contribution to the resistance war against the US, saving the country.
“Times will pass, but the place name Binh Gia associated with the Binh Gia campaign will go down in national history and forever be the pride of generations of cadres, soldiers and people of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province today and forever,” said Mr. Thanh.
The Secretary of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province also said that, inheriting and promoting the heroic tradition of the Binh Gia Victory, the Party Committee, people and army of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province have strived to compete, overcome difficulties and challenges, proactively, creatively, strived to build and develop, affirming the role as an important growth pole of the whole country.
Sharing about the will of the army and people of Binh Gia in particular, and Chau Duc district in general, Mr. Hoang Nguyen Dinh - Secretary of Chau Duc District Party Committee, reminisced about 6 decades ago, at the end of 1964, Binh Gia was an important area for the enemy in terms of military, politics and economy.
Therefore, the enemy determined that Binh Gia was a model strategic hamlet, an impregnable anti-communist fortress. Implementing the directive of the Central Military Commission and the General Command, in early November 1964, the Regional Command launched an attack campaign on the enemy in 4 provinces, with the main direction being Ba Ria - Long Khanh.
Also during this time, the people and the guerrillas in the localities grew rapidly. They coordinated smoothly and effectively and developed many flexible forms of combat with the army in battles. The Binh Gia Campaign was a campaign of the people's hearts before the Party and before the revolution.
At the conference, many scientists, historical witnesses, veteran cadres, etc. made many analyses and assessments to honor and express gratitude for the contributions of the liberation armed forces and the people of all walks of life who made the victory, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the national renewal initiated and led by our Party;
Educate revolutionary ideals, patriotic traditions, national pride and self-respect; encourage and motivate all classes of people, especially the young generation, to continue building the homeland and country to become more prosperous and happy. At the same time, draw valuable experiences for the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
