Health benefits of bird's nest
According to multidisciplinary physician Bui Dac Sang (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association), in Oriental medicine, bird's nest has a sweet taste, neutral properties, and affects the lungs, stomach, and kidneys. Bird's nest has the effect of nourishing yin and moistening dryness, replenishing the middle and benefiting qi, nourishing the kidneys and producing sperm, strengthening the spleen and nourishing blood.
Bird's nest is often used in cases of physical weakness, bronchitis, dry cough with sticky phlegm, asthma, hemoptysis, gastroesophageal inflammation causing vomiting, dysentery and prolonged malaria, tuberculosis, and bone and muscle weakness.
According to experts, many people consider bird's nest as a medicine and mistakenly believe that it can be used to cure diseases. However, bird's nest is simply a nutritious food, used as a functional food.
People who should not eat bird's nest
Physician Bui Dac Sang also informed that for young, healthy people with good absorption ability, eating bird's nest every day may not have too much of an impact. However, there are some people who should be cautious when using bird's nest. So who should not eat bird's nest?
Senior Citizen
The elderly should not eat too much bird's nest. Unscientific use of bird's nest will cause discomfort and bloating. In the long run, this can cause indigestion and other undesirable consequences affecting the digestive system.
People with weak spleen and stomach
People with weak spleen and stomach, colds, fever, headache, abdominal pain due to cold or bloating, cough with phlegm should not use bird's nest.
People with dermatitis
People with symptoms of dermatitis, acute bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and fever should not use bird's nest.
People with weak constitution
People who are thin, pale, have weak spleen and stomach function, and cannot absorb food and nutrients should not use bird's nest.
People with kidney yang deficiency
People with symptoms of loose stools and clear urine are advised not to use bird's nest to avoid making the condition worse.
Children under 7 months old
This age group should also not use bird's nest because at this time the child's digestive system is not fully developed and is not strong enough to absorb this very nutritious food.
According to Oriental medicine experts, the allowable dosage depends on each age group. For children 1-4 years old, they can use 1-2 grams of bird's nest essence/day. Children 4 years old and older, pregnant women, and young people can use 2-3 grams of bird's nest essence/day. Elderly people, people with illnesses (diabetes, cancer, just recovered from illness...): 3-4 grams of bird's nest essence/day.
