At the program, a group of young volunteer doctors from leading hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa conducted free congenital heart disease screening for 500 disadvantaged children, children in remote areas, and ethnic minority areas of Tuy Duc district.
The program also organized the giving of 500 gifts including candy, backpacks, milk, school supplies, worth about 100 million VND to disadvantaged children in the area.
Through screening examinations, cases of children with different congenital heart diseases will be detected. Children with heart diseases will be transferred to specialized medical centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa for treatment (surgery, intervention). Treatment, travel and accommodation costs for patients and their families will be supported by donors.
From 2022 to present, the Ho Chi Minh City Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Association has organized many screening and treatment sessions for congenital heart disease for nearly 7,500 disadvantaged children in the provinces of Tay Ninh, Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Ben Tre, Binh Thuan, Binh Duong, and Phu Yen. From these trips, doctors have detected and supported the treatment of nearly 200 children with various congenital heart diseases.
Dr. Do Nguyen Tin, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Association, said: “We pay special attention to localities that still face many difficulties, remote areas, and areas to help people there inherit high-tech medical achievements with the best health care conditions. The free heart disease screening and treatment activities of the Association, in addition to their professional value, also help educate the spirit of love for people and the spirit of dedication and community orientation for young doctors of the Association.”
The program is a meaningful activity to help children in remote areas and ethnic minority areas have access to modern medical services and take care of their health for a better life.
Tomorrow, June 24, the delegation will continue to organize free screening and treatment of congenital heart disease and give gifts to disadvantaged children in Dak Glong district.
