Regarding the Vietnamese team, the homepage of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said: "The best achievement of the Vietnamese team in the World Cup qualifiers is reaching the third qualifying round. The second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia will take place from November 16, 2023 to June 11, 2024. The top two teams in each group of the second qualifying round (there are a total of 9 groups) will qualify for the third qualifying round.
From the third qualifying round, Asian teams have a chance to qualify for the World Cup finals.
