The activity aims to honor the charm, beauty and encourage the preservation and promotion of the unique value of Ao Dai and Ao Ba Ba; at the same time, contribute to promoting tourism, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Can Tho City under the Central Government (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024) and the 93rd anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Women's Union (October 20, 1930 - October 20, 2023).
Along with 120 welcoming works of the Women's Union at all levels, the Can Tho City Women's Union organized a festival of Ao Ba Ba and Ao Dai costumes with the theme "Southern Charm" with the participation of 5,000 women.
If we say that the ao dai is a symbol, a soul, a crystallization of the homeland, the Vietnamese soul crystallized from 4,000 years of exploration and construction, then the ao ba ba is associated with the image of the people of the South opening up the land, attached to mothers and sisters in the resistance war to protect the Fatherland.
Since then, the Ao Ba Ba has become a typical cultural costume of the Southern region and Can Tho.
Within the framework of the festival, many meaningful activities also take place to honor the valuable beauty and spread love for the ao dai and ao ba ba.
Women wearing Ao Ba Ba visit Uncle Ho's statue on vintage motorbikes; experience the space of the old market corner, experience traditional cakes of the South; summarize and award the photo contest "The charm of Ao Ba Ba" in 2023...
According to the President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Vo Kim Thoa, the activities of the Festival are events that demonstrate the pride of Can Tho women when wearing the charming Ao Ba Ba, imbued with the Southern style, and the traditional Ao Dai of Vietnamese women, while also demonstrating the sense of responsibility of Can Tho women who are always aware of preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of their homeland.
The President of the Can Tho Women's Union affirmed that, continuing the precious tradition of Vietnamese women and Can Tho women in the past, women in the city have strived to rise up, constantly creating and innovating in labor, study, work, continuing to contribute to the common development of the city over the past 20 years.
The women's movement and the activities of the Women's Union continue to play a core role in women's work and the cause of equality.
Women's Unions at all levels have increasingly performed their representative function of caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women; at the same time, they have been a bridge between the Party and women's union members, contributing to building the great national unity bloc, building the Party, and building a clean and strong political system.
In addition, the movement of women actively studying, working, being creative, building happy families, building "5 no, 3 clean" families associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style is carried out synchronously and comprehensively, bringing practical benefits to women, families and communities, contributing to building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Record Organization announced the decision to set a Vietnamese record for the "Southern Charm" Ao Ba Ba and Ao Dai Festival - the event of ao dai and ao ba ba parade at the same time with the largest number of participants.
