Which are the 4 new products evaluated and ranked as OCOP at the national level in 2024?

This morning (June 25), the Central Council for Evaluation and Classification of OCOP Products in 2024 met to evaluate and classify National OCOP products for food groups in 2024 and consider re-recognizing National OCOP products that were recognized in 2020.

The evaluation council was chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam - Chairman of the Central OCOP Council, together with members of the Central OCOP Council, members of Advisory Group No. 1 (food group), representatives of the provincial OCOP program management agency and a number of OCOP entities.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam said that after more than 4 years of implementation, OCOP products have basically met quality and food safety standards and regulations; have diverse designs and packaging; and have a widespread reputation and are highly appreciated by domestic consumers and international visitors.

The initial goal of the Program was only to develop in the domestic market, but thanks to increasingly improved quality, OCOP products now tend to reach out to international markets, especially demanding markets such as the US, Japan...

According to the report of the Central Office for New Rural Area Coordination, in 2024, Advisory Group No. 1 completed the evaluation of 55 products in the food group, with 4 products scoring over 90 points; 8 products scoring from 87-90 points; 3 products scoring 85-87 points; 6 products scoring from 80-85 points; 7 products scoring below 80 points and 25 products not meeting the minimum requirements as prescribed, not having sufficient documents as prescribed.

And by June 20, 2024, the Central Office for New Rural Area Coordination had received registration and re-classification applications for 6/20 products achieving 5-star OCOP in 2020, including: Le Gia shrimp paste; Hao Dat shrimp tea; Tai Hoan vermicelli; Akoya pearls, Tahiti pearls, Southsea pearls.

Bac Giang litchi is evaluated and ranked as OCOP at the national level in 2024.

After conducting evaluation and scoring, the 2024 Central OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council selected 4 products that met 5-star OCOP standards, including: "Royal Golden Dragon Green Bean Cake" product of Hoang Gia Joint Stock Company (Hai Duong); "Luc Ngan Lychee" product of Hong Xuan General Production and Service Cooperative (Bac Giang); "Frozen Durian" product of Chanh Thu Durian Import-Export Company Limited ( Ben Tre ) and "Complete Spices" product of YesHue Production and Trading Company Limited (Thua Thien Hue).

In addition, the Council also re-evaluated the National OCOP products that were recognized in 2020, accordingly, 4 products continued to be ranked as 5-star OCOP: "Le Gia Shrimp Paste" product of Le Gia Food and Trading Service Company Limited (Thanh Hoa); "Tai Hoan Dong Vermicelli" product of Tai Hoan Cooperative ( Bac Kan ); "Hao Dat Shrimp Tea" product of Hao Dat Tea Cooperative (Thai Nguyen); and 3 products "Akoya Pearl, Tahiti Pearl, Southsea Pearl" of Ha Long Pearl Joint Stock Company (Quang Ninh).

As the first unit confidently presenting its OCOP product for the National 5-star OCOP evaluation, Mr. Le Ba Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Giang province, said: Bac Giang is the locality with the largest lychee growing area in the country, currently Bac Giang lychee has reached 30 countries and territories. Bac Giang lychee has brought very high economic efficiency to farmers.

In particular, the fresh lychee product is packaged with a weight of 1kg by Hong Xuan Cooperative, a long-standing product, produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, meeting both domestic and international markets. With such product quality, we are confident that Bac Giang fresh lychee products meet the requirements of the National OCOP Evaluation and Ranking Council.

Sharing about the effectiveness of the OCOP Program, Mr. Le Anh, Director of Le Gia Food and Trading Service Company Limited, the owner of Le Gia shrimp products achieving 5-star OCOP, said: We are fortunate to be the first 12 owners of 5-star OCOP products in the country. Looking back after more than 3 years, we have tried our best to spread OCOP products in the local community. Specifically, we have increased the value chain linked with our hometown farmers, and the market has also been expanded. In addition, in terms of production facilities, we have also expanded a new factory with a production capacity increased 5 times and combined with experiential tourism.

"In particular, the Company's experiential tourism model is a living proof of the spread of the OCOP Program because having an experiential model associated with OCOP products increases many values, not only in terms of economic and commercial value but also spreading the indigenous culture and traditional characteristics of our craft village," Mr. Le Anh added.

OCOP products always affirm their value and have a place in the domestic and international markets.

Currently, 63/63 provinces and cities nationwide have implemented the Criteria Set to evaluate and classify OCOP products. The number of OCOP products is currently growing very rapidly, with more than 11,054 OCOP products nationwide. The quality of OCOP products has been enhanced and improved, from the application of science and technology to packaging and design. Trade promotion activities have helped OCOP products to be widely consumed in the domestic market and expanded exports to foreign markets.

In particular, the OCOP Program has contributed to promoting livelihood development in particularly difficult areas and ethnic minority areas. Through the OCOP program, many localities have planned areas for specialty raw materials, developed rural industries, and preserved and developed many traditional craft villages; forming many OCOP products associated with the role of an "ambassador" to convey humanistic product stories of the region.

Hao Dat Tea (Thai Nguyen), one of the re-evaluated products, continues to meet 5-star OCOP standards.

However, according to Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam, currently, OCOP products submitted to the Council for evaluation and 5-star ranking are mainly focused on the food sector, while other sectors are very few, especially community tourism and rural tourism products, no products have been submitted for 5-star evaluation.

"Therefore, to diversify OCOP products in general and national OCOP products in particular, it is recommended that units, especially localities, continue to direct, monitor, support policies and promote propaganda to subjects so that there are many tourism products that meet national OCOP standards," Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam emphasized.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the goal of the whole industry is to strive to have 10,000 products nationwide by 2025, of which 30% are new products. With 2,000 existing craft villages, each craft village must have 1 OCOP product that achieves 3-4 stars. At the same time, digital transformation must also be considered a goal that localities must aim for in order to perfect the evaluation and classification system based on digital transformation.
