30th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Team Searching for and Collecting the Remains of Martyrs of Military Region 2 in Laos

The Military Region 2 Martyr Remains Search and Collection Team was established in 1994, carrying out the assigned task of searching, collecting, and moving the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died during the war in 6 northern Lao provinces including Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Luang Prabang, Phongxaly, and Xayaboury back to Vietnam. Over the past 30 years, the Military Region 2 Martyr Recovering Team has searched for and collected 1,836 martyrs' remains and handed them over to 25 provinces and cities across Vietnam, including 387 identified martyrs' remains.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 2, praised and highly appreciated the results achieved by the Collection Team, which not only met the aspirations of the masses and relatives of martyrs' families but also contributed significantly to maintaining and strengthening the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Major General Nguyen Hong Thai suggested that the Military Region 2 Martyr Remains Search and Collection Team should continue to closely coordinate with the local authorities, departments, agencies, and organizations to propagate and mobilize people to collect and provide information to deploy the search and collection of martyrs' remains with the highest efficiency.

Representing the government and people of the 6 provinces of Northern Laos, Mr. Onkeo Unnalom, Vice Chairman of Oudomxay Province, expressed his infinite gratitude for the sacrifices of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts in the noble international revolutionary cause, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Lao army and people to fight steadfastly to regain independence and freedom for the Lao people; affirmed that the government and people of the 6 provinces of Northern Laos consider the search and recovery of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the war as the task and responsibility of each individual to search, consolidate information and quickly recover and repatriate all remaining remains.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Oudomxay Provincial Government presented Certificates of Merit in recognition of the achievements of the Team searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs of Military Region 2 in the Lao PDR in recent times.
