30,000 businesses need to recruit hundreds of thousands of logistics workers

Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters about the human resource needs of the logistics industry, Associate Professor Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hoa, Director of the Vietnam Logistics Development Research Institute, said: "According to a survey, the logistics industry in Vietnam will need more than 200,000 human resources by 2030. Nationwide, there are currently about 30,000 enterprises operating in logistics-related fields, of which about 4,000 are professional logistics companies with international connection services. Ho Chi Minh City alone accounts for about 54%".

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Thu Hoa, logistics enterprises often recruit people with different levels of education, from university, college to intermediate level, depending on the job position. The logistics industry has positions such as import-export staff, supply chain planning and coordination, purchasing, customer service, warehouse operations supervision, demand planning, supply chain planning, warehouse and distribution center management, inventory management, transportation management and coordination.

In addition, there are also positions for data analysis and solution consulting. Those who study intermediate or vocational forklift driving can also work as forklift operators.

Currently, many universities and colleges offer logistics training, but Ms. Hoa said they only meet 10% of human resource needs.

Regarding the income of new graduates working in the logistics industry, according to Ms. Hoa, from 2021, the salary will be 7-9 million VND/month, and will gradually increase depending on ability. Employees with 2-5 years of experience will have the lowest salary of 500 USD and the highest of 1,500 USD/month (in Ho Chi Minh City) and the lowest of 700 USD/month, the highest of 1,500 USD/month (in Hanoi).

With 3-15 years of experience and working in a management position in the logistics industry, the lowest salary is 1,000 USD/month, the highest is 4,000 USD/month (in Ho Chi Minh City) and the lowest is 1,500 USD/month, the highest is 4,000 USD/month (in Hanoi).

"Although the demand is very high, in order to be recruited and work well, in addition to professional knowledge, workers in this field also need to meet many criteria such as communication skills, situation handling, foreign languages, ability to apply information technology...", Associate Professor, Dr. Hoa acknowledged.
