At the Conference, the Prime Minister acknowledged, highly appreciated and commended the important contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community to the homeland and the country over the past time, contributing to the important and historic achievements of the country after nearly 40 years of renovation.
An occasion to show "national love and compatriotism"
According to the Prime Minister, this Conference is of great significance as it takes place in the context that the whole country is entering a period of acceleration and breakthrough, striving to complete the 5-year plan (2021-2025), towards strategic development goals to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
At the same time, it also coincides with the 20th anniversary of the implementation of Resolution 36 of the Politburo on the work of overseas Vietnamese - an important milestone in this work and the cause of great national unity. This is an opportunity to meet and reunite to discuss important and practical issues on the development of the country in the coming years; to listen to the thoughts, aspirations, and valuable contributions of overseas Vietnamese; and to demonstrate "national love and compatriotism".
Message, focus for the overseas Vietnamese community
According to the head of the Government, the country has high expectations for the overseas Vietnamese community in the cause of national construction and defense. The success of overseas Vietnamese is also the success of Vietnam.
The country is always proud of the overseas Vietnamese community, cherishes their feelings, understands their aspirations and highly appreciates their contributions.
"We always strive to listen thoroughly, see clearly, and understand the thoughts, aspirations, and contributions of the Vietnamese community abroad," the Prime Minister shared.
Regarding orientation, the Prime Minister noted that work related to overseas Vietnamese must fully demonstrate and promote the tradition of great national unity.
At the same time, it is necessary to promote the resources and patriotism of our compatriots abroad towards their homeland and country; strongly demonstrate the sentiments and responsibilities of our Party and State in caring for the Vietnamese community abroad.
Work for overseas Vietnamese needs to be synchronous, comprehensive, inclusive and clearly defined as the responsibility of the entire political system and the entire people under the leadership of the Party, promoting the spirit of great national unity, combining the building of mechanisms and policies with the work of mobilizing and supporting the community.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister sent messages to overseas Vietnamese, as well as directions for the work of overseas Vietnamese to achieve the best results.
Firstly, the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part and a valuable resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community. This is a consistent and continuous policy of our Party and State. The year 2025, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country and the 50th anniversary of the National Reunification Day, will be an opportunity to promote and develop the spirit of great solidarity and national harmony, looking towards the future.
Second, the country expects the overseas Vietnamese community to contribute to the cause of national construction and defense. This is a great source of strength for the nation. The success of our compatriots is also the success of the country – the country is proud of our compatriots abroad.
Third, the country cherishes the sentiments, understands when listening to the aspirations and highly values the valuable contributions of overseas Vietnamese for the homeland. We always strive to "listen thoroughly, see clearly, and understand completely" the aspirations and wishes of our compatriots.
Mentioning the "three focuses", the Prime Minister requested relevant units to support overseas Vietnamese to stabilize their lives, do business with peace of mind, integrate well and develop strongly in the host country's society; build a strong and cohesive community; protect the legitimate rights and interests of the overseas Vietnamese community both at home and abroad.
Accordingly, it is necessary to promote and at the same time find new motivations to connect the community with each other and between the community and the homeland and country; constantly innovate methods of supporting and mobilizing the overseas Vietnamese community to promote their own potential and strengths to contribute to the homeland and country.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the Party, State and Government will always create conditions and ensure the legitimate rights of people regarding land, housing, nationality, residence, investment and business environment, etc.
Continue to promote the role of "common roof"
On that basis, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to continue to promote their role as a "common home", a trusted address for our compatriots, and a bridge to bring them closer to the Fatherland. Ministries, sectors and localities receive, respond to and practically apply the opinions and contributions of our compatriots.
To the Vietnamese community abroad, the Prime Minister sent a message: "Please continue to be ambassadors of Vietnam, bringing glory to the Vietnamese people, the descendants of the Dragon and Fairy."
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh's advice "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success", the Prime Minister believes that the overseas Vietnamese community, an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community, will continue to promote its highest spirit and intelligence, develop more and more strongly, promote its role as a bridge between Vietnam and the world, combine national strength with the strength of the times, worthy of the tradition of Lac and Hong descendants, realizing the aspiration to develop a strong and prosperous country.
