3 authors from Nghe An won the 2024 National Book Award

On the evening of November 29, the 7th National Book Awards Ceremony 2024 was held in Hanoi.

The National Book Award is a State-level award held annually, awarding books and series of books with outstanding value in terms of ideological content, knowledge, and aesthetics to honor authors, translators, scientists, and publishers. Thereby, contributing to discovering, preserving, and promoting valuable works to a wide range of readers; promoting the development of the publishing industry in the right direction and in line with the integration trend.

In 2024, from more than 400 works submitted by more than 51 publishing units, the Jury selected 58 good books to propose for awards at the 7th National Book Awards.

Accordingly, there are 3 A prizes for the book "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History (1698-2020)" (2 volumes, author: Nguyen Dinh Tu); "Handbook of Diagnosis and Treatment of Internal Medicine" (author: Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co (Editor-in-Chief); "Collection of Military Writers - Proceedings - Works" (5 volumes, Army Literature Magazine).

The Organizing Committee also awarded 10 B prizes, 21 C prizes, 21 Encouragement prizes and 4 Readers' Favorite Book prizes (1 book won 2 award categories) for the following categories: political - economic books, natural sciences and technology, social sciences and humanities, culture - literature and arts, children's books.

In the list of award-winning authors, there are 3 authors from Nghe An.

The special person among the award-winning authors is Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu, 104 years old, who received the National Book Award A with two books “Gia Dinh – Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History”. These are two books that fully demonstrate the development stages of Ho Chi Minh City from its inception in 1698 to 2020, covering many fields and aspects. To launch this book, over the past 20 years, he has devoted his efforts to going to all libraries and National Archives Center 2 in Ho Chi Minh City to collect documents for the work.

Author Nguyen Dinh Tu, originally from Thanh Chuong district and now living in Ho Chi Minh City. He has published many books and historical novels such as “The Rebellion of the 12 Warlords”, “The French Colonial Regime in the South (1859-1954)”. Previously, he received the A Prize for Good Book at the 2018 National Book Awards, when he was 97 years old, with the work “The French Colonial Regime in the South (1859-1954)”.

The second person from Nghe An to win the C prize at the award ceremony was Mr. Pham Xuan Can with the book “Finding the traces of Vinh in the past” published by Nghe An Publishing House. The book recreated the urban appearance and people of Vinh during the colonial period. Mr. Pham Xuan Can is from Yen Thanh district. Before becoming an author with a “fate” for books, he was Deputy Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee, former Deputy Director of Nghe An Department of Science and Technology.

Another author from Nghe An who also won the Encouragement Prize at this year’s award ceremony is Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh with the book “Born in 1972 – The desire to live of a person going against the flow”. The book tells the story of his entire learning, growing up and developing process. His successes and failures in life, his wishes and plans for his career and life…

Mr. Nguyen Canh Binh is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alpha Books and Omega. He is also Director of the Vietnam Intellectual Cooperation Center and founder of the ABG Young Leadership Training Program. He grew up in Hanoi but is originally from Do Luong district./.
