16 students hospitalized after eating candy of unknown origin

An Giang After eating an unknown brand of candy, priced at 500 VND each, 16 students from Nui Sap Town Secondary School, Thoai Son District, had stomachaches, vomiting, and had to be hospitalized.

The incident happened on December 2, 16 students were diagnosed with food poisoning. Authorities quickly tested the children for drugs, the results were negative.

The next day, some students got better and were discharged to return home for treatment. Currently, 15 students have returned to school, while the remaining students are being kept in the hospital by their families for further treatment.

According to the school representative, these candies were sold by a female student in the same class for 500 VND each, sold to 9 friends in 2 days, 240 pieces, used by more than 30 children. The candy packaging was colorful, printed with fruit, but had no brand, ingredients, or origin.

The female student said she took the candy from her older sister who is in 11th grade. Working with the police, the 11th grade female student said she bought the candy from an unknown woman in Dinh Thanh residential area, for 40,000 VND for 200 pieces, and currently has 5 kg left unsold.

The school has confiscated the candy still in circulation among students and educated them not to use strange foods of unknown origin.
