On December 14, the Department of Industry and Trade of Khanh Hoa province sent a document to the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and centrally-run cities regarding support and connection for the consumption of spiny lobsters in this province.
According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, currently, the amount of unsold lobster in Khanh Hoa is estimated at about 150 tons (size 0.7-1 kg/lobster), mainly concentrated in Van Ninh district (135 tons) and Cam Ranh city (15 tons).

Grade 1 lobsters (from 1kg/lobster or more) are being purchased at 1.25-1.35 million VND/kg; Grade 2 and 3 lobsters are purchased at about 1.1-1.2 million VND/kg.
It is expected that from now until the end of the year, the estimated output of lobsters ready for harvest, with a size of 0.7-1kg/each, will be about 355 tons (in Van Ninh district) and 40 tons (in Cam Ranh city).
"In order to promptly support and promote the consumption of lobster in the province, Khanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade hopes for the attention of the Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities, units and enterprises inside and outside the province to support and connect the consumption of lobster in Khanh Hoa province", the document of Khanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade stated.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the reason for the lack of sales of spiny lobsters is that last May, China updated the list of wild animals that need protection and spiny lobsters were named.
By August, the export of spiny lobsters to China was suspended due to strict control of imported naturally caught spiny lobsters by customs at border gates.
Specifically, China does not import wild-caught spiny lobsters, only farmed spiny lobsters with clear origins. Even the juveniles that are harvested from the wild and put into farming are considered natural lobster products.
According to statistics, most of the lobsters raised by people in the South Central provinces are exported to the Chinese market (accounting for 98-99%). Therefore, when this market stops accepting, high-end seafood such as lobsters fall into a state of unsold stock.
Shrimp farmers in Khanh Hoa province are in a difficult situation as shrimp prices are low but there are still few buyers (Photo: Trung Thi).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Quyen, a large aquaculture farmer in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), said that lobster farmers in Khanh Hoa are facing more difficulties than ever.
"People lack money to buy food for shrimp, and they can't borrow money because the shrimp can't be sold, so no one dares to lend them money," Ms. Quyen shared.
It is known that raising spiny lobsters costs twice as much and takes twice as much time as raising green lobsters, but the current selling price of this seafood is only about 1.25 million VND/kg (grade 1 lobster), "equal" to the price of green lobsters (1.1 million VND/kg). Although spiny lobsters are cheap, there are still few buyers.
