11 American countries issued statements rejecting the results, Washington said there was "clear evidence"

The United States and 10 Latin American countries on August 23 issued a joint statement rejecting the Venezuelan Supreme Court's certification of President Nicolas Maduro's re-election on July 28.

The governments of Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay said the Court's ruling was invalid due to a "lack of independence and impartiality".

On the same day, August 23, the US State Department declared that the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)'s approval of President Nicolas Maduro's victory in the presidential election in July "lacked credibility" in the context of "clear evidence" showing that opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez received the most votes.

"The publicly available and independently verified precinct-level vote counts show that Venezuelan voters have chosen Edmundo Gonzalez as their future leader," said US State Department spokesman Vedant Patel.

Previously, on August 22, TSJ announced that President Nicolas Maduro was the winner of the election on July 28.

In a ruling announced by Chief Justice Caryslia Rodriguez, the TSJ stressed that the agency “certified indisputably the electoral documents and confirmed the results of the presidential election of July 28, 2024, announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE),” naming Mr. Maduro as the winner.

On August 2, the CNE announced the results of the vote count of 96.87%, according to which the incumbent President Maduro won with 51.95% of the votes. However, the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia did not recognize the above results and claimed to have won 67% of the votes, at the same time accusing Mr. Maduro of cheating the results.

TSJ later asserted that the opposition parties supporting presidential candidate González Urrutia had failed to present any evidence or records related to the alleged fraud in the election. TSJ also said that despite receiving a summons, Mr. González Urrutia did not appear in court.

TSJ began hearings on August 7 for all 10 candidates running in the recent presidential election to push the court to certify the official results of the election.

In recent years, the government of Nicolas Maduro has achieved remarkable results in economic recovery, ensuring social order and security and political stability.

During the election campaign, Mr. Maduro sent a message to the entire population that the country had built a great consensus towards a strong economic recovery; outlined the future of Venezuela through the completion of major strategic tasks around axes such as economic modernization, complete independence, peace, security and territorial integrity, social, political, ecological and geopolitical.
