As part of the 12 main activities of Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Festival 2024, on August 27, 2024, the contest to prepare 100 delicious dishes from wax coconut and set a Vietnamese record took place in an exciting and enthusiastic atmosphere in a festival featuring local products.

The teams participated in the competition with more than 100 dishes made from wax coconut such as: taro cake with wax coconut, grilled money tree with wax coconut butter, wax coconut crepe, wax coconut noodle soup, wax coconut milk spring rolls, wax coconut chocolate ice blended, grilled beef with wax coconut sauce,...

This is one of the activities within the framework of the 100-year Tra Vinh Wax Coconut Festival in 2024. The contest aims to raise awareness about protecting the characteristics, building, preserving and developing the wax coconut brand.

At the end of the contest, the Organizing Committee awarded 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize, 2 Third Prizes and 11 Consolation Prizes.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Record Association announced the decision to establish a Vietnamese record with the content "The event of processing dishes and displaying products from Cau Ke wax coconut in the most in Vietnam" to the People's Committee of Cau Ke district.

Tra Vinh has a total area of ​​27,359 hectares of coconut trees, fruiting area of ​​over 23,540 hectares, ranking second in the country (after Ben Tre province), with a harvest of nearly 450 million fruits/year. Of which, 1,277.6 hectares of wax coconut are grown in 6 districts and cities, but mainly concentrated in Cau Ke district, accounting for 1,145.7 hectares, of which 70 hectares meet VietGAP standards.

In recent times, Tra Vinh province has developed hundreds of valuable products related to coconut trees. Particularly for wax coconut, there are 3 products achieving 3-star OCOP, 7 products achieving 4-star OCOP, 3 products achieving 5-star potential OCOP, 1 product achieving 5-star OCOP and especially wax coconut is processed into many delicious and healthy dishes. According to the Strategy for upgrading the coconut value chain in the period of 2022 - 2025, the province will develop an additional 550 hectares of specialty wax coconut.

In addition, Tra Vinh has set out directions to build the wax coconut brand such as planning growing areas, expanding cultivation, and producing in the direction of organic and VietGAP.

Investing in and developing infrastructure to serve the development of wax coconut growing areas. Applying advanced seed technology, especially embryo-cultured and tissue-cultured coconut varieties with high wax content, to improve productivity and product quality.
