1,000 interest-free loans/semester for students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology?

The information was shared at the 2nd Congress of Phu Tho - Bach Khoa Alumni Community in 2024 held at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology on the evening of January 6.

In 2020, the Phu Tho-Bach Khoa Alumni Association was established as a temporary representative board. After 3 years of operation, the total budget for projects and support from BKA for Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology is now over 36 billion VND. Notably, activities to support learners are noteworthy.

For example, the Polytechnic Scholarship and Development Support Fund for Students was established by BKA in December 2022. To date, the fund has raised VND 22.7 billion.

In addition, the 0% interest student loan support fund was also established with the aim of helping students become independent and not letting their studies be affected by tuition fees. In the past 5 pilot semesters, the fund has supported 344 students with a total amount of nearly 4 billion VND. BKA has implemented a zero-interest loan guarantee program from semester II of the 2021-2022 school year with a maximum loan amount of the entire tuition fee for each semester. The number of students participating in the program has increased each year, from 17 loans in 2021, to 64 in 2022 and 263 in 2023.

Mr. Tran Ba ​​Duong, Chairman of the Board of Representatives of Phu Tho-Bach Khoa alumni community for the 2024-2029 term, said that in the second term, the fund will continue to deploy and expand the loan target, with the target of 1,000 loans/semester with a total amount of over 15 billion VND.

Students apply for loans at BKA office

Previously, in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology implemented a loan guarantee program and interest rate support for students paying BKA tuition fees through Vietcombank. Students in the school's standard program can borrow for up to 2 years, reviewed once per semester based on academic results. Students are obliged to repay the loan within 30 days if they decide to drop out of school or graduate from the school before the deadline. The loan amount is equal to the school's prescribed tuition fee and is disbursed each semester.

Conditions for loan guarantee for new students include: admission confirmation, priority given to students with difficult circumstances. Students in the remaining years need to have a cumulative average score of 5.0/10 and a training score of 80/100 or higher. In particular, students with academic results of 8.0/10 and training of 90/100 during the loan guarantee period will be considered for a scholarship of 50% or 100% of the loan depending on the student's circumstances, efforts and program budget. Students must pay an interest rate of 6-8%/year to the bank, all interest will be supported by BKA for students immediately after students complete interest payments to the bank.
