Vietnamese traditional medicine is made up of ancient health care practices related to Vietnamese culture before European allopathic medicine arrived in the 20th century. Like all traditional medicine, it does not separate man from nature and sees human existence as an indissoluble union between the body and soul, combining physical, mental, social, moral and spiritual welfare.
Far from being merely a copy of Chinese traditional medicine, it has two components: thuốc nam (southern medicine), genuinely Vietnamese[1]; and thuốc bắc (northern medicine) which is Chinese or rather Sino-Vietnamese in origin.
