According to Mr. Simon Kreye, Charge d'Affaires of the German Embassy in Hanoi: Vietnam is one of the countries heavily affected by climate change. The event aims to share better solutions to cope with climate change issues. With everyone's contribution, especially the voice of young people, there will be more effective solutions to the problem of climate change.
At the event, students listened to speakers share and exchange opinions on the role of youth in participating in climate action, and solutions to promote the role of youth in participating in environmental protection and climate action.
Speaker Chu Thanh Huong - Deputy Head of the Department of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction and Ozone Layer Protection (Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) affirms: Youth is a powerful force for change, representing a significant portion of Vietnam's population. According to 2022 statistics, Vietnam has 22 million young people, accounting for 36% of the workforce. Today's youth are well-trained and have many opportunities to participate in the energy transition process.
A just energy transition is a move towards a low-carbon society, reducing the use of coal power, increasing resilience to climate change issues, etc. A just energy transition is one of the hot issues today. This is a new concept to the public, through the press, through many different channels, young people and journalism students will disseminate knowledge, policies, raise the voice of the people and especially young people.

As a member of the Green Youth Labs project – Duong Thi Bao Ngoc, a student at the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, said: Green Youth Labs is a youth training project on energy transition and renewable energy, implemented for 3 years from 2021-2024. From the project, 33 student initiatives have been selected and implemented.
At the discussion, young people shared recommendations, one of which was the desire to establish a youth advisory board to receive contributions from different youth groups. Young people need to proactively find mechanisms to mobilize resources more proactively.
After the discussion, delegates and students experienced audio-visual-touch activities at the exhibition displaying the results and initiatives of youth during the 3-year journey of youth contributing to the process of creating change and the perseverance of practice to contribute to a just energy transition in Vietnam.
The discussion on “Youth engagement in a just energy transition in Vietnam” is part of a series of events initiated by the German Embassy in Hanoi. The event aims to address issues related to climate change, providing a platform for exchanging experiences and promoting cooperation between policy makers, businesses, the scientific community and the public on this issue. |
