Information from the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), on the afternoon of 16/9, at Noi Bai airport, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention Nguyen Van Tien received relief goods for people in disaster areas from Mr. David Paul Kletzing - Head of the Representative Office in Vietnam of Samaritan's Purse (an international non-governmental organization with the mission of humanitarian assistance and community development).
The aid includes 3.000 flashlights, 3.000 kitchen sets, 3.000 household water filters, 3.000 clean water containers, 6.000 Song Long 22-liter plastic buckets with a total value of about 116.000 USD.
According to the plan, the relief goods coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Samaritan's Purse will be transported to 3 provinces. Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Cao Bang on 16-17/9 to promptly distribute to people affected by floods.
On the same day, Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Van Tien, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, received aid from Mr. Thomas Gass - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Vietnam at Noi Bai airport. Also here, Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee Tran Huy Tuan received the goods from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and directed the provincial agencies to develop a plan to distribute them to people in areas affected by storm No. 3 and floods.
The aid includes equipment, safe housing systems, clean water and sanitation with a volume of 26 tons, estimated value of about 361.140 CHF (about 10,5 billion VND).
At the aid handover ceremony, Switzerland expressed condolences for the loss of life and property that Vietnam is suffering, and is ready to stand side by side with Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in the coming time.
In the immediate future, Switzerland will send a delegation of 8 experienced experts in the fields of clean water, sanitation, safe housing, etc. to conduct surveys and in-depth research on the needs of Yen Bai province, and propose appropriate reconstruction plans. The delegation of experts is expected to conduct a survey in Yen Bai this week. Swiss experts will come to support the installation and provide instructions on how to use the equipment for the locality.
Previously, at 23 hour 45 minute 15/9 night, the flight carrying aid goods from Goverment India landed at Noi Bai airport. Director of the Department of International Cooperation Nguyen Do Anh Tuan and Deputy Director of the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Nguyen Van Tien, representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, received the aid from Mr. Sandeep Arya - Ambassador of India to Vietnam.
The aid includes 2.628 water purifiers, 1.000 water tanks with valves, 15 water tanks (500 liters), 10.000 blankets, 7.506 mosquito nets, 2.000 solar lamps, and 2.000 cooking utensils. The estimated weight of the goods is over 35 tons with a total value of about one million US dollars.
Immediately after receiving aid from the Indian Government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development carried out the distribution and delivery of goods to localities as planned. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Chairman of the Red Cross Society, represented the province. Tuyen Quang has received and transported the aid goods to the locality; the remaining goods will be transported to the province. Lang Son to promptly distribute to people affected by floods.
From 11/9 to date, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has received 1 aid shipments from the Australian Government, 3 aid shipments from the ASEAN Regional Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management, 1 aid shipments from the Japan International Cooperation Agency - JICA, 1 aid shipments from the Government of India, 1 aid shipments from the Swiss Government, 1 aid shipments from the Samaritan's Purse organization.
As of 16/9, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has mobilized and received attention from 10 Embassies and 16 international organizations with a commitment to support 160 tons of goods via air through the Ministry. The goods arriving at Noi Bai airport have been and will be transported directly to Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang and Lang Son provinces for timely distribution to people affected by floods.
